Would you Host your own Radio Show?

Do you have a weird thing for stick figure drawings? Me too. I think that’s the main reason I started playing KOL (Kingdom of Loathing). The humour drew me in after that and kept me playing. Once I got to the point of being stuck in the game I was already listening to the KOL Radio, especially ADeadHeart, my friend who had sent me the link in the first place. She is taking a break from live radio, not on as often as she had been. But you can hear her on November 4th, 10:00 AM (depending on your time zone). If you do listen to her show you need to know ahead of time that it is not family friendly.

Have you ever thought about being a radio show host? What kind of show would you do? What kind of music would you play if you were a radio DJ? Or would it be a talk show about gardening, or auto repairs, or something else entirely?

Write a plan for doing your own radio show. Write your very first monologue to introduce yourself and the show.

Try the “I’m a Great Artist Spell” for NaNoWriMo

In the spirit of NaNoWriMo (beginning November 1st) and Halloween (today as of this posting) I bring you…

I’m a Great Artist Spell from “How to Turn your Ex-Boyfriend into a Toad and Other Spells” by Athena Starwoman and Deborah Gray.

For this spell you will need: some peppermint tea, a mirror, a scarf made of natural materials and a red lipstick or crayon.

When you really understand what magic is built on – the fact that all energy is connected – then any time you’d like a shot of inspiration, you can try this spell. The best time to cast this spell is at 7:00 in the morning or evening.

Make the peppermint tea and breathe in the aroma for a moment or two. Put all the items of enchantment on a flat surface in front of the mirror, and seat yourself in a relaxed position where you can see your reflection.

Drape the scarf around your shoulders. Take the lipstick or crayon and draw a large circle on the mirror while you recite these words:

The circle is cast, only the good can enter herein.

Now write the name of the great artist you’d like to connect with, in the middle of the circle, and write your name underneath the artist’s name. Then look directly into the mirror and recite these words:

I will learn the secrets of the soul I am one with the eternal universe I am connected with all greatness and genius.

The Passion to Publish Your Own Words

Do you have the passion to publish your own words? I really like this quote, below, from the site of David J. Richardson and his guide to creating, publishing your own fanzine (zine for short).

First off, be very very sure you want to produce your ‘zine. It can be a very thankless arduous task, especially when you’ve got set publication dates. The need for passion was probably best stated in the 1996 British Doctor Who fanzine November Spawned a Monster, where they said:

If you feel keenly interested enough in any subject to bother spending your precious hours compiling a magazine only a very small number of people will read, then you must care passionately about your subject. You should, surely to God, actually have something of your own to say about it. There’s no merit in being dispassionate. That’s what all the professional magazine and books are required to do. You don’t have to do anything. It’s yours. It’s blank paper until you scribble on it. If all you’re writing is ‘William Hartnell, ‘1963-1966’ then why the dayglo purple fuck are you wasting everyone’s time?

November 27th

On this date, in 1932, my Dad was born in the UK. Sometimes they would say he was born in Scotland, sometimes the story would switch and he would be born in England but grew up in Scotland. Not vitally important either way. Unless you are his daughter and wonder about these things, where you came from and who you should be.

My Dad has been dead a few years now. We never got along so I can’t say I feel upset. I do think of him now and then and on his birthday. All those cards I bought and made over the years. Most he barely looked at and then misplaced somewhere. My Mom kept a few and then threw out more as clutter management.

Everyone has someone gone from their life. Someone who may not have been especially beloved but had a part to play. Write about a misplaced birthday for someone who never became famous but had some small, yet vital, part to play in the grand scheme of things. What kind of birthday memorial should there be for the people that time forgets?

Stand By Grrl

This morning I woke up early – early for a day I didn’t have to go into work. The plan was to go to the road test and wait on stand by in case someone else missed their appointment and I could step in and get my road test done early. It is scheduled for November 29th. (Those who live in the area should keep that date in mind and stay well back from all road ways).

Anyway, I got up, brushed hair and teeth and all other things brushable. I was ready to go out the door when I realized something was out of place, outside. It had snowed. Not just a light dusting or a little, pretty sprinkle, it was a real heavy snow. Covering the stairs, driveway and the car. I thought a moment about how I should, or could, get them all brushed off. I ended up settling on just brushing off the car.

I hadn’t decided for sure about the road test until I was driving on my way there and had the brakes on the car get stuck. I went through a red light in a school zone with my foot on the brake. So, I thought it would be a good day not to be on stand by for the road test. It was the highway test after all and the highway was looking pretty snowy and slow when I had a look on my way to the shopping mall section of town.

I bought the new digi camera, a Panasonic Lumix. It has 10x optical zoom which was the big thing I was looking for. I’m not sure what the MB level is. I was pretty focused on the zoom thing. It does have other nice features and I am trying them out a bit this afternoon. One pretty big downside if the file size for photos taken with this camera versus my old one which was a 3.1 MB camera. The new photos suck up MB like like a rabid anteater at a picnic. I didn’t expect this. I’m even thinking about keeping the oldie camera so I can take a few photos which will still be ok for using online and in the weblog in particular. I’m sure there is a way to shrink down the file size, I just have to find it.

So, no road test done today but I did get the camera and drive back here all without killing the car. I wasn’t really looking forward to sitting there on stand by all day anyway. Like waiting for someone to pull a switch before the torment begins.

October Babbling

I don’t know why it seems like such an effort to write anything the past couple of months. Maybe I’m confusing myself with a bear, thinking I’m going into hibernation. Whatever it is I’m not going to win any prizes for keeping my blog going.

Tonight is the last day of my working week. I have Tuesday and Wednesday off. Already making some plans for a road trip. Anyone know of an abandoned house on the way south to the town of Simcoe? I was going to try the Orangeville area as I have a few around there which I have been intending to get to. I think I will have my own car for November so that will make the road trip plan easier as I will only need to arrange my own time and gas money.

I lost my password for Ubuntu so now I have to delete the whole thing and reinstall it just to do anything at all with it. Why does it make you have a damned password in the first place? Will it blow up if someone else looks at it? I don’t have a password on my computer so I really do not want one on anything else. It’s like those stupid car alarms. They only person they go off on is the owner of the car. If anyone was actually stealing the car they would never go off at all. (Or they would be ignored). People really need to get rid of some of their issues with needing security. If you really feel that paranoid hire your own personal body guard. Hire one to stand around all day and guard your car and another for the computer and another for the bathroom in case someone doesn’t flush.

At least you’d be helping out your community by offering employment to people who might have been passed over at the local telemarketing company or McDonalds. Go you! But you may need a second job yourself to pay for all that security. Still, you’d always have someone hanging around, protecting you, your privacy and your goods and services and whatever other flotsam and jetsam.

I think it would be like getting suffocated with your own security blanket. I know it would drive me crazy.

Soon time for the working day. Sunday was kind of an easy day. Nearly all the calls were just reboots. Monday isn’t likely to be so easy. Most people save up their really big messes for Monday. Meanwhile Saturday is when all the lunatics phone. I guess that’s the day the guard at the asylum has off.
