The Arte y Pico Award

Thank you to Jennifer at Robin’s Woods for picking me out of the crowds of creative bloggers for this award. It is especially nice as I have seen and enjoyed Jennifer’s photos. She knows how to put together something to show it artistically and beautifully.

The Arte y Pico Award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creative energy and talent whether it’s writing or artwork in all types of media. When you receive this award it is considered a “special honor”. Upon winning this award you are to explain the rules and then choose 5 other blogs that you feel deserving of this award. Here, then, are the rules…

1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language.

2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award. http://arteypico.blogspot.com/.

The five blogs I am sending this award to are:

Claire at A Little Piece of Me: Claire brings Doodle Week to life with her help on the site, promoting it and her doodles for the banners, badges and all the work she has put into it on Flickr. I’d also give the award to Claire for her own blog, her doodles are colourful in so many ways, the actual colours are just the beginning.

Brady at Hunting the Muse: I look forward to Brady’s posts. His best posts are warm, not backing away from being human and vulnerable at times. I also like his photo at the end of the post, his writing prompts for anyone who chooses to use them.

Daisy at Daisy the Curly Cat: Yes, it’s a bit odd to give an award to an animal but Daisy’s roommate (we all know cats don’t have owners) is pretty behind the scenes. She takes the photos, makes the cartoons and writes the air bubble comments. Daisy makes me laugh and I like the style of her cartoons, the photos turned into a cartoon.

Pete of Rainy Pete’s Unbalanced World and Useless Advice from Useless Men: Pete has amazing photos and a great sense of humour. He has a lot of heart. Also, he is one of the few bloggers I have met in person. We took photos of an abandoned house. Pete was bold/ crazy enough to go inside.

Debbie of InkyGirl and Will Write for Chocolate: She has contributed a lot to writers online. Not everyone online now will know about her network, InkSpot. It’s long gone but was a mega resource and community when it was around. It has never really been replaced. I don’t think it can be, she just came at the right time and place. Nowadays Debbie is drawing cartoon strips geared to writers and she continues to update her blog with news, ideas and profiles of writers.

Tagged: Seven Weird Things About Me

First, there isn’t anything weird about me. It can all be perfectly explained. There is a reason for everything and everything in it’s place. If there is something weird then it’s just your own point of view. That, or I meant to do that.

Designing Fairy has tagged me to find seven weird things about myself and then torment… I mean tag seven other blogfolk to do the same.

1. I buy a lot of books and seldom read them. I do read and recycle the fiction. But I have masses of non-fiction books which are almost all bought new and still have that new book smell. I may never read them. But, I like having them and I really am interested and often involved with or learning the subjects the books are about. I think it makes me feel happy and full of possibilities when I buy them. But, once I get them home they just intimidate me with the idea of trying to be as perfect as they think I should be.

2. I like animals and yet I don’t really want them near me. Cats are the only exception but even cats live outside. I don’t share my home with livestock willingly. There may be the odd insect who just creeps in, putting their life in peril.

3. I’m a quiet Earth Witch. I don’t write much about it. I don’t promote it or look for converts. I don’t believe in spells or any gods or worshipping anything. It’s just my own thing and I am happy keeping it to myself.

4. I’m not at all interested in cosmetics, beauty, fashion. I’d much rather look at sheet sets and other things in the bedroom and kitchen departments of stores. I have four sets of cotton jersey sheets in rich, beautiful colours.

5. I seldom talk about the issues because people look at me like I’m crazy when I discuss my opinions and ideas. I don’t agree with the popular opinion very often.

6. I have a really strong fetish for rocks and stones. I also like wood but not nearly as much as stone. I would really like to get to an old stone house and get photos. I saw one while driving last week but did not have time to stop then and it is too far to get back there any time soon.

7. I like telling people too much about myself; I try not to think about it.

Told you I wasn’t weird.

Steve Irwin: The Crocodile Hunter Died

I was sad to hear that Steve Irwin had died today or yesterday in Australian time zones. He was 44 and left behind a lovely wife, 2 children and a world full of animals. He cared about the wildlife and the environment. I think I most remember him from The Crocodile Hunter when he was chasing after stray/ feral cats, trying to keep them out of the Australian ecosystem. Best wishes and thoughts to his family.

I am optimistic globally. So many scientists are working frantically on the reparation of our planet.
Steve Irwin

I believe that education is all about being excited about something. Seeing passion and enthusiasm helps push an educational message.
Steve Irwin

My belief is that what comes across on the television is a capture of my enthusiasm and my passion for wildlife.
Steve Irwin

When I talk to the camera, mate, it’s not like I’m talking to the camera, I’m talking to you because I want to whip you around and plunk you right there with me.
Steve Irwin

Yeah, I’m a thrill seeker, but crikey, education’s the most important thing.
Steve Irwin

Steve Irwin’s Biography is available on the site where I found the quotes. His site, The Crocodile Hunter is not loading today, likely due to a lot of web traffic.

The Moving News

Plans have changed mainly due to cats.

Yesterday we drove down with a fairly good car load of stuff, mostly books, clothes and cleaning supplies. They are all still in the car. The apartment will be nice, it even has a fancy heated floor. There is still some work to be done to finish up a few things, which I knew ahead of time. I did look over the place and though it’s small it’s not miniscule and I will be fine there, once I can actually move in.

The people who rent upstairs have been using the basement apartment as a cat toilet for their cat and it’s kittens. So, the apartment stinks of cat and cat byproducts. I’m allergic to cats and get asthma from them as well. I couldn’t leave any of the things I brought down there as they would be cat infested. I don’t know how long it will take to air out that basement apartment, it only has one door and two smallish windows. However, this is not a sign of great things to come as far as me getting along with the other tenants. My brother has emailed them about the cats and cat stench. Even if they throroughly clean it up I doubt it will be free of them for a long time.

So, I’m kind of disappointed. It’s not Grahams fault. He left them with a key for the downstairs apartment while he was away in Florida. He trusted them and they abused that.

Anyway, that’s the news. Other stuff happened, good and bad, but I’m still tired this morning.

Why is Cat Tormenting so Funny?

Stuff On My Cat

I like cats too. I think there is something kind of odd about how fun it is to torment them, to ruffle their fur and do something beneath their dignity. Yet, the cats don’t seem to really mind. They just strut away as cool and aloof as ever.

I miss having cats around. Not just cause there were far less small rodents and those really aggravating starlings/ grackles/ whatever they are called in your rural location. But, cats were fun. Nice to have around as a self contained companion. Cats don’t need looking after but they don’t mind hanging out with you and just listening to your idiotic rambling.
