Never Seen Again, in Ontario?

The words “never seen again” are the creepiest phrase I’ve ever heard. They show up in childhood fantasy tales, as well as horror stories. So any story, fiction or fact, with those words haunts me. They are creepy and fascinating and a mystery usually not solved.

I’ve heard stories, reports and tall tales about people never seen again. Often they don’t say where the story started from. A lot of these stories are based on at least one ages old urban legend. But, they’re still creepy.

I turned on Tubi and watched a few episodes of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction last night. One of the episodes, ‘The Kid in the Closet’, was about a boy with a monster in his closet. His older brother teased him about it and then, to prove there was no monster, he went into the closet and shut the door. They heard him making a ruckus, yelling and banging at the door, then it went quiet. The Mother came in to see what was going on. She opened the closet, no one was inside. No older brother. But, his shoes and a pile of the clothes he had been wearing were there, without him.

Police were called, inspected the closet and found no way for him to get out. At the end of the episode they said he was never seen again and claimed this story is based on a true event.

Any time someone is never seen again is creepy. The police thought the boy had run away. On the show they left that sort of hanging, but doubtful. Also, the police had not found any way he would have gotten out of the closet, other than the door. His clothes and shoes were left in the closet. Those two things seem a bit odd, even after I found out more.

It turns out, according to the source I found after a bit of a search, that the boy did run away. So, how did he get out of the closet? The police didn’t notice the ceiling panel when they looked? I guess he was at least wearing his underwear, the show didn’t say all his clothes were left in the closet. So, it is still a little puzzle. It is possible the whole thing really is a hoax, in spite of the show saying it was fact, not fiction.

A bit of digging turns up at least one comment on the show’s IMDB message board, posted on February 12, 2008, in which the commenter shared her correspondence with someone who had worked on Beyond Belief and knew the actual truth:

“The Beyond Belief: fact or fiction story about the monster in the kid’s closet was based on an actual event that I personally investigated,” she was told. “At the time it happened there was no explanation for the boy’s disappearance— until two weeks later when it was learned that he had climbed out of the closet through a ceiling panel and ran away from home. He stayed at a friend’s house surreptitiously until the friend’s mother discovered him hiding in the attic of their home and exposed the ruse.”

The show’s producer wouldn’t discover this very important detail until it was far too late.

Speculative Fiction merging Non-fiction, History and Horror

Create a story, with some element of horror. An even that would give you nightmares, if it happened to you.

Don’t start with a family photograph. I think that would be a bit creepy, for you and your family. Find an old photograph, black and white works well for the dramatic effect. Also, anyone in the photograph is likely no longer living, if it really is an old photo.

Build a life for a person, or people, which could be real, but might not be. If you want to work on it, look into history for the local area. Find real stories which you can link to the people in the photograph.

Make a mix of non-fiction, possibility, and your worst nightmares.

Writer/Director James Marsh’s first feature, WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP, is an intimate, shocking and sometimes hilarious account of the disasters that befell one small town in Wisconsin during the final decade of the 19th century. The film is inspired by Michael Lesy’s book of the same name which was first published in 1973. Lesy discovered a striking archive of black and white photographs in the town of Black River Falls dating from the 1890’s and married a selection of these images to extracts from the town’s newspaper from the same decade. The effect was surprising and disturbing. The town of Black River Falls seems gripped by some peculiar malaise and the weekly news is dominated by bizarre tales of madness, eccentricity and violence amongst the local population. Suicide and murder are commonplace. People in the town are haunted by ghosts, possessed by devils and terrorized by teenage outlaws and arsonists.

Could you go this far and make a site about your own town? It would be tricky, the mix of real stories, real people in photographs and the addition of speculation.

So Far I am Not Dying of Covid

People who test positive for Covid are sent home. No one calls an ambulance to take them to the emergency department or the isolation room in the hospital. No, they are left to their own devices, sent home in whatever mode of travel they used to get to the Covid test. No one even makes sure they got home ok, or are self isolating.

I worked in a hospital in Toronto, as a volunteer. I know there are isolation rooms which they could use (and maybe are) for people who test positive for a really dangerous or threatening disease. Signs were put on the doors, with an extra sign in the hallway should someone not look at the door. Isolation was taken seriously. If someone needed to be isolated or quarantined for a reason, they were. It was not left up to the person themselves. It was not left to chance or whim. People were isolated, they were not out shopping because they got bored, they did not order in fast food, they did not leave that room in the hospital. Until they were no longer a danger.

If Covid were a real emergency, a real public danger as it is played up to be… why are people sent home as they would for the common cold, the flu and most other non-serious diseases, medical problems. If Covid were a real threat wouldn’t it be taken a lot more seriously when someone tests positive? But, its not. Covid propaganda is in over drive, the danger is hyped up to ridiculous levels, and people are afraid. Living in some kind of zombie horror movie they can’t escape. But, the threat the government and media keep selling just doesn’t match the reality. For one thing, some of you may be really disappointed to discover, there are no zombies.

Why is the “vaccine” being forced on people, more or less? Why are people acting/ talking like the “vaccine” will protect them from every sickness or disease, or death. If someone does not have the “vaccine” (and it is always “the vaccine” as if it is now the only one) they should expect to die or infect everyone they come near. That is extremely silly and not likely.

But governments are forcing people to forgo their privacy, their medical history, and carry around a card saying they have had “the vaccine”. What about all the other diseases, viruses, bacteria which people could share (in spite of masks, experimental drugs, gloves, etc). There are real threats to health which people have lived with all their lives and not even stopped to wash their hands in regards to.

Every time I start to wonder if maybe I’m wrong about all of this. The fact is, the risk of getting Covid is pretty low. The risk of getting Covid and then getting actually ill with symptoms is low. The risk of death is even less, lower than the risk of being hit by a drunk driver, bitten by a dog, or dying of cancer. I don’t see that as something to panic over.

The risk of dying from Covid may be higher than the chance you will buy the winning lottery ticket for millions of dollars, maybe. I haven’t read that, I’ve just assumed it.

I haven’t seen the government sending out vehicles to load up with the bodies of the dead, those people who tested positive and were then sent home to quarantine themselves with the ever so deadly Covid. Places which were set up to receive bodies, have not been at capacity. I know of one which was not used at all, not even as a Covid test facility, because it was not needed. Yet the media and government press on, threatening, cajoling, and scaring people. I don’t understand why.

I’ve been sick in my life, in spite of being fully vaccinated as a child with booster shots at times during my life. I haven’t had mumps, or polio, or any of the other things I have been vaccinated for. This “vaccine” does not prevent you from getting sick with, or testing positive for, Covid. So, why are people getting it? It is an experimental drug. That’s all. I won’t volunteer to be a lab rat for this drug I don’t need. Although the government is making it harder (and so much easier to just give in and get the “vaccine”) I will remain in the control group for this government sanctioned science experiment on the public. That’s my choice.

In the end, time will tell.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark Movie Macabre

I started typing in this post and then the Internet decided to die. Usually, the post would manage to be saved as a draft, this one didn’t make it. So, although it only matters to me, this post is being written a second time around. Kind of right when thinking of Cassandra Peterson, better known as her character, Elvira. She wasn’t finding huge success in movies and TV, until she became Elvira. A reinvention of herself from her career and personal life.

I had thought she was a Vegas showgirl who found a better career path, until I read more about her. She started liking the horror genre as a young person due to being burned and left scarred as a toddler. She was a showgirl, but also acted in movies, modelled, etc. At the time she started as Elvira she had been working in an office, typing, filing, all of that. Her story is inspiring for those who think they’re just going to become forgotten in some mediocre job.

Elvira comes back into media attention at Halloween, for the month of October issues of this and that. It’s too bad but, good for her marketing to have a schedule and maybe she can take some of the year off for planning and even sleeping. Cassandra Peterson is no slouch, good posture and clever merchandising. Whatever you think of the Elvira character and her cleavage, the woman has taken a small part as a horror movie host and turned it into her own empire. Instead of pay raises, she built up her ownership of Elvira and all things connected with it. Fan art may be ok, but she has 100% ownership of her image and all the goodies. There are a lot of goodies, take a look at her site and others to see Elvira on games, comic books, movies, dolls, mobile phones cases, clothing, food products, pretty much anything you can think of, Amanda Peterson’s Elvira has been there.

I found an Elvira Christmas ornament. It’s cute but odd to have no eyes, or blank eyes, however you look at it.
