Bookmark Collectors Virtual Convention

Do you have a bookmark collection? Do you use bookmarks at all or do you just turn down a corner of the page you are reading and close the book on it (the dog-earred method)? I like having a bookmark. I do buy one now and then. But, being shoved into my purse, moved from backpack to purse and then forgotten on the nightstand awhile, a bookmark tends to take some abuse and get lost. Most of the time I use the folded corner to mark the page I’m reading. But, I really like the idea of having a bookmark collection. Now, I just need to find whatever stragglers are left.

Bookmark Collectors Virtual Convention: Bookmarks have been in existence for as long as there have been books, and for the bookmark collector their meaning goes beyond their mundane purpose of marking a position within a book. Made out of materials that vary from paper to precious gems, they are pieces of art, souvenirs, craft samplers, time capsules, and cultural flotsam. Although their prices vary from free to thousands of dollars, collectors ascribe value based on personal meaning, judgment of beauty, and fit within a series.

The convention is planned for February 20 – 21st at 8:AM, PST.

The Errand Day

I took this while getting groceries and running errands this week. This is what I was carrying from one bus to the next. I had groceries in the backpack and the black bag under my purse. I try to stuff things into my purse too but already had it pretty full. Crazy how much we cart around at times. Much easier with a car of course. On the bus you can’t leave anything in your trunk it’s all there, all day, until I get off the last bus and walk home.

Taking the Winter Train

You’re on a train, going through snowy ice covered mountains. It’s cold, bitterly cold. Your breath is coming out in swirls of steam even inside the warmest car on the train. Everyone is wearing full winter gear. Still hours until your stop, the end of the line. You sit with your backpack at your back, a little cushion from the bump and sway of the train. In your hands is a hot drink (you’re not sure what it really is) from one of the other passengers.

Where are you going and why are you going there?

Smiley Saturday #2

Posted for Smiley Saturday:

I went out today. Last day of my vacation time off from work. Just have my usual weekend to go before I am back at work on Tuesday now.

I went to Zellers for a lunch out. Was a disappointment. The halibut burger was really good the first time I ordered it. Today they weren’t even cleaning the tables off between customers. Gordon Ramsey would not approve.

But I smile about the new nightgown I bought myself. Pretty with tiny green polka dots on a lighter green background. Even some smocking with off white roses at the top. I’m wearing it now. Should have washed it first. But I didn’t want to wait.

A new purse too. Some kind of brown leather like clone. A backpack shape but smaller. Lots of nice pockets for everything. I just finished moving everything over from the old purse which was a bigger backpack type that keeps falling off my shoulder and aggravating me.

On the way home I decided to take a taxi. I got the driver I used to get when I was working midnights. Hadn’t seen him in awhile. Was nice to catch up with how he is doing.

Packed Full of Cash

You find a backpack full of crumpled up money. No one is around, no one seems to think anything about you picking up the backpack and walking off with it. When you get it home and count it out you find just over $100,000.00. What do you do with it?
