I often get a haunted feeling when I notice these ghosts left on the side of a building from one which was there but demolished now. I was happy to see someone else thinking about them and even getting a collection of photos. These come from London, UK. How many have you seen in your own area? Did you ever stop and get a photo? Or, see what you can find out about the building no longer there?

Ghost Preservation Worse Than Demolition?
This is not preserving history. It looks like a skin graft that didn’t take. A mask to be taken off when the party is over. I haven’t noticed anything like this before, but, I’m not living in Toronto these days.
Worse than demolition? I don’t know. I doubt something left like this will be maintained with the same effort as the newer building which really is part of the structure. How likely is the old facade to be left to crumble away when it really isn’t needed. Just an attempt at making peace with local historians.
This is why I love the photographs of the original places. It is sad that photographic technology hasn’t always had all the options for colour and detail which we have now. Yet, what will people a hundred years from now think of our obsolete images? Nothing can really be preserved, it can only be kept a little longer.
London is filled with grafted facades, nearly two-dimensional artifacts held in place while updated buildings are constructed behind them; many seem to haphazardly half-disguise the boring new stru…

Is Your Television Alive? – Ghost Geeks : Ghost Geeks
Is Your Television Alive?
White noise and phantom images are just the beginning. The electronic aethyr is still the great unexplored country.
There is a whole new study developing around the electro-aethyr, or EA as it is sometimes known. Like all new areas of study, the interest in the electronic aethyr, has been developing for some time.
In the early days of radio, telephony and phonography, the very nature of the new communication medium may have hit a nerve. For the first time, disembodied voices were appearing like magic. Imagine, if you will, sitting on a sofa in front of the fireplace listening to a haunting melody sung by a favorite crooner who was, unfortunately dead for many months. Today we are well accustomed to such things, but what a potent brew of nostalgia it must have cased, mixed uncomfortably with the disquieting fear of hearing the dead speak from a music box.
I imagine there was a cold shiver that shook that listener when the thought crossed his or her mind that maybe what was causing the music box to play was actually alive. Perhaps the realization that only the same music played over and over again calmed that listener’s nerves. But I remember an old woman once telling me that her mother swore her phonograph occasionally played songs that were not on the album. It would happen to her just after midnight. The lyrics were German, and half way through the song would just fade away.
Are there really ghosts in our machines?

More Ghosts in the Machine
Now that people are more emotionally attached and in tune with their electronics than their houses, is it any wonder more and more people report that their computers are haunted? That there really are ghosts in our machines?
Years ago I came across a report concerning a suicide, where the suicide note claimed “I can no longer stand it. Every night, night after night it tells me to kill myself. It talks to me from my TV. It lectures me, humiliates me and mocks me.” What disturbed me most about this was what I found out with a few brief phone interviews. A neighbor told me that the victim told him that this happened even when the television was off.
“I thought he was crazy,” the neighbor said. “Hell, I knew he was crazy, but I’m telling you one night I snuck up to his living room window to listen. It was last fall. Warm enough for the window to be open but not so hot the air conditioning was on. I listened for ten, maybe fifteen minutes and all I heard was the program he was listening to- CNN or something. So I was feeling pretty stupid by then and I was about to turn around and get out of there when I hear someone say, ‘Cut your wrists. Get the steak knife and do it now.’”
For a minute the phone line was dead between us. I didn’t know what to say, so I just waited it out from him to get going again.
“Now I know you think this is crazy, but his TV was right near the window I was outside of and I’d swear that’s where the voice came from.”
Day Time Adventures
Day time adventures are my personal favorite because I can take pictures and actually see the building in natural lighting. Although the buildings are losing their old looks, they’re gaining new characteristics such as vines and erosion that give them a unique, beautiful look. There’s a rich history to be accounted for once you really take a look at them. Each place has a story to tell.

I prefer daytime adventures too. I like to see everything and I’m not looking around hoping to scare myself with ghosts.
Phantom City
When thousands of residents of the Chinese cities of Jiangxi and Foshan reported seeing a ‘floating city’ in the clouds earlier this month, theories attempting to explain it ran wild, speculating everything from experimental holographic technology to glimpses of an alternate reality. A shaky video captures what appears to be the silhouette of a city skyline high above the horizon, at a larger scale than that of the real skyscrapers on the ground.

Ghost Hunters Burn Historic Mansion
The fire at LeBeau broke out at about 2 a.m. local time Friday, Nov. 21, and the building was almost completely destroyed by the time firefighters arrived. The ghost hunters had been trying to produce a reaction from the spirits they assumed resided there, by doing what TV ghost hunters call “provocation,” essentially making loud noises, yelling taunts at the ghosts and banging on walls. Frustrated that their efforts failed to yield any spirits, the group decided to light a fire. Whether this was intended to smoke the spirits out or simply burn the place down, the resulting flames soon reduced the mansion to ashes and four brick chimneys. While many ghost hunters engage in harmless (and fruitless) fun, as this case shows, there can be a dark, dangerous side to the pursuit. In the wake of popular ghost-hunting TV shows, police across the country have seen a surge in people being arrested, injured and even killed while looking for ghosts.

Painting of Lebeau Plantation by Elaine Hodges.
From Wikipedia: LeBeau Plantation
The LeBeau Plantation existed in Arabi, Louisiana. It was built as a private residence by Francois LeBeau in 1854. Francois Barthelemy LeBeau bought the land in 1851 and the demolished the house that was already on the property. Though LeBeau died the year that the plantation home was complete, his widow Sylvanie Fuselier lived in the home until her death in 1879.
Between the 1920s and the 1940s, the LeBeau Plantation was known as the Cardone Hotel.
Examiner: Haunted Lebeau Mansion burned by careless ghost hunters
Nobody had lived in the mansion since the 1980’s and there were no injuries. A piece of history was lost in the Arabi, Louisiana. All that is left behind are the four tall chimneys and a pile of charred lumber.
A mansion that stood strong for over 160 years and even survived hurricane Katrina could not fight off the fire that took her to the ground by the carelessness of these seven men.
