The Haunted House

“Your house is your larger body. It grows in the sun and sleeps in the stillness of the night; and it is not dreamless.” Kahlil Gibran

Although this is meant as an inspiring quote, when I read it I hear the making of a great horror story in my mind. Creepy houses are just so… spooky.

What makes a house scary? We live in our homes each day. We clean them. We decorate them. We sleep in them. How does something so trusted and true become something so frightening, so intimidating?

Even without including ghosts and hauntings, a house can be ominous. Like a pet that suddenly turns on you. That ever dependable pet/ house isn’t looking so friendly any more. What do you really know about that house anyway, what does lurk up there in the attic of it’s mind? Down that long, dark hallway, how do you really know everything is still just as you left it?

Zack, my nephew, says “Your house is going to eat your soul”.
