Evidence of Giant People in Ontario History?

What, or who, were the giants, old or prehistoric skeletons found, which are at least seven feet tall? I’ve heard they were redheaded or blonde and described as white/ pale skinned by the native Indians who encountered them in their history.

Could they have been Vikings, certainly we know Vikings did make it to (what is now) Newfoundland in Canada.… Read the rest

Make Space for Yourself in Your Life – Get Rid of Too Much Stuff

Moderation in all things, is still great advice, if you can stick to it. We are spoiled for choice. So many options, so many choices, and it ends up filling up our lives with stuff we don’t really need or use, or even want. But, it gets hard to make a decision about what to keep and what to do once we manage to make a decision.… Read the rest

Rockhounds in Ontario and Canada

A rockhound is an amateur geologist or collector of rocks, minerals and gemstones. It’s not always about the value or selling them. Not for me. I like the history of rocks. Such ancient things, far older than even the oldest of trees. Eroded by time and the elements (mostly water) found on and under land, sea and space, small enough to fit into a pocket or far too massive to consider moving at all.… Read the rest

The other means someone else is taking credit for and possibly selling my photos.… Read the rest

Handwritten Letters Last a Lifetime (Unless Someone Burns or Otherwise Recycles Them)

When did you last write something by hand. I’d even count a grocery list because people just seem to use their phone for even that small thing now. I miss handwriting. I still send greeting cards with short notes. When I was younger I wrote long letters, on stationary, to my Grandmothers and their sisters. None of them are still around and these days my handwriting is not quite so elegant, or legible, but I do my best and send out cards to nephews and nieces around the holidays.… Read the rest

Did you Know About Milk Tokens?

Found at an Etsy shop with this information:

From the late 19th century through the 1960s and 1970s, dairy distributors of Canada issued tokens as monetary substitutes for convenient home delivery. They also served as advertising.

Kemptville, I think, is now part of Barrie, Ontario. So a bit more local history for Ontario. I didn’t know there were tokens like this.… Read the rest
