You Are Never Selfish with Your Advice or Your Help

"You are never selfish with your advice or your help".

That is my Chinese fortune cookie fortune. I seem to have collected a bunch of them in the time I was living in the US, going from buffet to buffet on the weekends. Buffets are great, so much to choose from, as long as the salad bar is fresh. Oddly, there are far more buffets in the US than in Canada. I think I'll miss them, but they do let you get out of control in how much you eat.

Anyway, other things I found different were more processed food rather than fresh and no where could I really find good coffee. I think those were the big things that struck me in a food related way. Even the Starbucks coffee is different once it crosses the border. I don't know why that would be. I do understand the whole diet Coke thing. Canadians tend to like pop that isn't so sweet. You could taste the difference between Canadian and US diet Coke. I substituted with WalMart's Sams diet cola, it was good. Its called Value something or other up here in the Great White North.

I've decided the processed food versus fresh food could be a geographic thing. Not so much a US/ Canada thing but a midwest/ coast thing. I've found that people in bigger cities tend to like fresh produce more than people in small towns. Just my own uncontrolled experiment so don't blow a gasket if you violently disagree or feel offended. Do your own experiment and let me know what you come up with.

For now, I'm glad to be back here. There is more yogurt, better coffee, Smarties and since its summer I can drive along the highways and byways and pick up all the fresh fruit and vegetables at the roadside stands. This weekend I bought fresh mushrooms, broccoli, green peppers, corn, tomatoes and potatoes. Cooked up with fresh dill, beets, carrots and beans from the garden... we're feasting on summer produce!
