Archie - Before Google, Bing, or Yahoo

Before Google, Bing, or Yahoo, there was the Archie Query which launched in 1990 as the world's first internet search engine. Archie, referred to as the "electronic index to the Internet," was developed by Alan Emtage, a postgraduate student and systems administrator at McGill University's School of Computer Science in Montreal, Quebec. The name Archie came from archive, without the "v".

Source - canuckle.ca - Sadly the site is no longer online. I met the man who started/ kept the site while being part of another site, also long gone, called EntreCard. If I am remembering right the site for canuckle was run by Lincoln McCardle. I'm not 100% sure about the name now, years later.
