The Holidailies - Month Long Daily Blogging Project

This link was originally found and posted in December, 2007.

Just came across the Holidailies while looking at blogs in the Thursday 13. Too late to join it this year but maybe I will remember about it for next year.

Description on the site from this year (2026). Site is still online but not very active looking now. It was a nice idea but I guess there are so few personal sites online now, far less people to join and contribute.

Welcome to the 26th annual Holidailies project, a free community writing project that promotes sharing your writing and other online creative endeavors during the winter holiday season.

Holidailies 2024 participants try to update their personal websites consistently perhaps even daily from December 1, 2025 to January 1, 2026. If you want to join us, all you need is a blog (hosted on your own domain or by sites such as Wordpress, Blogger, LiveJournal or Tumblr) and the time/desire to create and share website content with us for a month.

As a participant, you can write or post your own photos/audio/video about whatever you like on your existing website, then post the link here on the Holidailies portal. The newest entries display first.

Holidailies draws participants from all over the world, from a variety of ages and walks of life, covering a wide range of interests. Some participants share stories about their daily life, others write in themed blogs about everything from hiking to homeschooling, from knitting to alternative lifestyles. Some write about Christmas, some about Hanukkah, and some about ways to avoid the holidays as much as possible.

Since then they have started Horrordailies and Thingdailies:

About Horrordailies

Welcome to the 10th annual Horrordailies, a free community blogging project where all participants commit to writing and sharing horror-related topics on their blogs every day. Participants can write about horror-related topics, post reviews of horror movies, classic horror movie posters, post original horror fiction, and more.

... and desire to post something horror or Halloween related to our site regularly throughout the month.

As a participant, you can write or post your own photos/audio/video about whatever you like on your existing website, then post the link here on the Horrordailies portal. The newest entries display first.

About Thingadailies

Welcome to the eleventh annual Thingadailies, a free community crafting project where all participants commit to making one thing every day during the month of February, and sharing / talking about it on their blogs. What "thing" each person makes is entirely up to them. Some participants may decide to make a variation on the same thing every day, while others may switch it up from day to day or week to week.

... and the time/desire to create one new thing a day and share website content with us for a month.

As a participant, you can write or post your own photos/audio/video about whatever you like on your existing website, then post the link here on the Thingadailies portal. The newest entries display first.

Visits from Real Wild Animals

My cousin lives in BC, along the coast. She sent photos of a young bear which appeared near her home. I'm glad she had the common sense not to approach and/or feed the bear.

Years ago we had a wild deer at the house, along the street. It tried to jump through the big window at the front of our house. I don't know how it didn't break, I was very glad it did not. At the end of our street, in the suburbs of Barrie, are farms. We get more wild animals coming from that way. Not many get far before turning back. Likely it happens more often now as they get less and less space. But, it is nice to see them, real and alive now and then. To remember they are there.

What was the last wild animal, of a larger size like a deer or bear, which has wandered into your area?

Six Minute Story

Writing prompt site: Six Minute Story

Writing a story in six minutes, with a ticking timer and a surprise prompt, is an adrenaline rush.

It will invigorate your mind for the entire day, helping you create more (and more and more) original art.

Which is, as Kurt Vonnegut said, "a way to make your soul grow."

We use a few kinds of prompts to cure writer's block.

Images, start lines, and something of our own concoction: a Hero, a Villain, and a Goal. Use these to jumpstart your imagination, and feel free to follow the inspiration wherever you want.

Fictish - Storytelling and Game Platform

Fictish - A storytelling and game platform? I didn't sign up to try it. This seems too much like all the sites who were so kind as to publish writers (without asking for payment) as if they are just doing you (the writer) a great favour. Marketing can produce so much misdirection, like a sleight of hand magic act. Writer beware.

Once in awhile a writer is chosen to win an Amazon gift card for $10. That's nice. How much time do they put in before they might make ten dollars?

The site does have writing prompts, somewhere. I didn't find them when I took a second look at the site today.

Creative Questions from Karen

The site has all the questions from Write from Karen's Monday Morning Meme. I'm reposting those I think are most interesting, for me at least.

  • Are you an urban dweller, a suburbanite, or a country person? Are you happy where you live? Without giving too many details, tell us about the place where you live. What makes it different than other places? What do you like the most? The least?
  • Would you rather be overdressed or underdressed for a party? Why? Tell us about the last time you were overdressed and/or underdressed; what happened? Did anyone notice you were over/under dressed?
  • What five things would you put in a time capsule?
  • If you could give a single piece of advice to the film industry in Hollywood, what would you say? If you were a powerful film producer, what sorts of films would you produce? Why?
  • If you could be guaranteed an honest answer to three questions, what questions would you ask, and who would you ask them of?
  • Have you ever worn your slippers, or pajamas, in public? If so, when and why? If not, would you ever consider leaving your house looking less than your best? What do you think of people who do so? (Be honest, we all judge on some level).
  • What three sounds do you love? Okay, now tell us WHY you love these sounds.
  • Which are scarier to you: ghosts or aliens? Why? Do you believe in either/both? Why or why not?
  • What is your earliest memory of a library? Who took you? Do you have any funny/odd memories of the library?
  • If you could interview anyone, who would you interview, and what would the first question be?
  • What is the oddest thing you ever bought for yourself?
  • What modern day convenience would you be willing to give up forever? Why would you give up that particular convenience and how would you give it up?
  • When you are having a bad day, what do you do as a little ‘pick me up’?
  • How far do you live from the place where you grew up as a kid? Tell us about the place you grew up – would you choose to go back there and raise your own family (if you have one)? Why or why not?
  • If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sorts of memories does the smell evoke?
  • If you could spend one year in perfect happiness but afterward would remember nothing of the experience, would you do so? If not, why not?
  • Do you believe in ghosts or evil spirits? Explain, please. Would you be willing to spend a night alone in a remote house that is supposedly haunted? Have you ever seen, or thought you’ve seen, a ghost or evil spirit? If so, what did you do? If not, how do you think you’d react?
  • Do you think that the world will be a better or a worse place 100 years from now? Explain your answer, please.
  • Would you accept $1,000,000 to leave the country and never set foot in it again? Explain, please. Is money or love more important to you? How much money would it take for you to step away from your current life?
  • You are given the power to kill people simply by thinking of their deaths and twice repeating the word “goodbye.” People would die a natural death and no one would suspect you. Are there any situations in which you would use this power?
  • What is your opinion on the death penalty? Let’s say the person is a serial killer and has admitted his/her guilt, and it is your job to sentence that person. Could you give that person the death penalty? Why or why not?
  • Would you be willing to become extremely ugly physically if it meant you would live for 1,000 years at any physical age you chose? Explain your answer.
  • What do you have to have with you when you travel? Why?
  • The getaway car is waiting outside – where is it taking you?
  • What do you think is the sexiest profession for a guy?
  • What’s more important, where you live or what you do for a living? Why?
