Thursday Thirteen #6: Christmas Grinch Spirit

Today for Thursday Thirteen... Why I still don't have my Christmas tree or any decorations up...

  1. I feel like road kill after having failed the road test, my (well meaning and caring but overly loud) brother and my birthday all in one day yesterday.

  2. I don't have the energy, no I don't have the ambition, to find everything.

  3. Sometimes it is too much like going through the dead and wishfully buried to look at all that old stuff when looking back seems better than the here and now.

  4. Maybe I'm just getting too old for Christmas.

  5. Maybe I can just admire other decorations and trees from afar and leave all mine in mothballs.

  6. Maybe my Christmas tradition is to buy a new tree ornament and keep everything wrapped up and packed away, in some box or other.

  7. It seems too much like the never ending ordeal of moving to have to find all those boxes and unpack them.

  8. Maybe I can just procrastinate one more day...

  9. I have to get ready to go to work in a couple of hours.

  10. At this rate Christmas will be over soon anyway.

  11. No one but me will be here to see the tree and decorations, I could just lie and say I had them all up and then took them all down right after the 25th. Let them deal with that.

  12. I know I will never find that one angel my Mom bought me for my tree and I just don't want to finally look through the last box and have to admit she (the ornament) is gone forever.

  13. My Dad was an electrical engineer, all those little lights and plugs really do give me the creeps, once mildly electrocuted, twice... umm..... severely phobic.

Thursday Thirteen #5: Romantic List

Thursday Thirteen - A list about romantic notions. I've been listening to romantic crooning CDs for hours. Sometimes I do miss being married, part of a couple.

  1. A soft song in my ear while we dance to the slow songs.

  2. A tiny bouquet, as a surprise, on my desk.

  3. A drawing of fantastical things like dragons, castles and queens. Made just for me.

  4. A sexy wink and a grin when he catches me watching him do something manly like shaving, chopping wood, you get the idea.

  5. One single really scrumptious and decadent chocolate on my pillow. (Note, not ice cream!)

  6. A love poem, especially if it's so awful it makes me laugh.

  7. When I'm in the shower he steps in to scrub my back and then wash my hair.

  8. In bed, he wraps his arm around me, only a little possessive and yet really nice and snuggly.

  9. Holding hands while out walking outside in the dark of night.

  10. Sneaking a kiss when holding the door open.

  11. He knows all the words to My Funny Valentine.

  12. He remembers something I told him a week ago even though it wasn't vitally important.

  13. Staying up all night, just talking about everything and anything.

Thursday Thirteen #4: Car is Me

Thirteen reasons to have a car:

  1. Support the insurance and banking industries so they can keep building skyscrapers to support the construction industry.

  2. Road trips!

  3. The smell of gas as you fill the tank.

  4. Avoiding waiting outside for buses that are always late and later.

  5. Those little mirrors are really good for plucking eyebrows and those irritating facial hairs we don't admit we get.

  6. You're not a vulnerable, squishy pedestrian.

  7. You get your picture on a license.

  8. You can pack a lot more shopping into a car than you can carry on the bus.

  9. You can take a lot of junk out of your purse and stash it in your car instead.

  10. The radio sounds better when you're driving.

  11. At night you can pretend you're famous and stand in the beam of your headlights. (Like I'm really the only one who has done that!)

  12. If you run away from home (or need some other quick get away) you don't have to stick around waiting for the bus.

  13. It gives you something to put all those bumper stickers on.

Blog Takers: Back to the Future

Blog Talkers Weekly ... If you could go back in time, what one piece advice would you give yourself? Question submitted by: Shawna

Don't take this the wrong way... but you're going to die. Live well while you can. Spend less time considering what others think of you. Most of the time they have their own problems and won't even notice you. Don't give your time and energy to the people who only give you back negativity. Enjoy life, be less afraid of making mistakes. Do the things you have always wanted to do. Trust yourself more, a lot more.

#3 Thursday Thirteen - Living after the Collapse of Civilization

Thirteen Things to save if civilization ended and we all had to exist in the rubble.

  1. A ton of books, some of those classical literature things I've always meant and had good intentions about for so long along with the science fiction, hopeless romances and cozy mysteries.

  2. My hope chest. My Grandfather made it for me.

  3. All my sheet sets and blankets and quilts. Even if I could find more they just wouldn't be the same. I have soft dark neon pink sheets which I've only used once so far. I have a deep, dark red quilt I found cheap at a thrift store. Also, the beautiful pink, green and white flowered quilt I bought myself when I had my first full time job.

  4. Pens, pencil crayons, and plain white lined and unlined paper. I would like to keep drawing, no matter how ungreat my drawing is.

  5. A generator or three and my computer. I just can't see myself writing articles, journals, stories and my blog (yes, that too) in longhand now that I have had a love affair with the word processor so many years. It would be such a hardship to go back to writing by hand.

  6. Tons of seeds, cuttings, bulbs and so on so I could keep my favourite flowers, trees, fruits and vegetables growing.

  7. Cocoa powder (tons of it) cause I must have chocolate and I think all the other forms of it would not have enough shelf life.

  8. I would liberally take all kinds of coffee beans from the Second Cup and Williams coffee shops. I want all those rich, smooth flavours of vanilla and caramel. I'd need a lot!

  9. The digital camera. I'd even get a few spare from stores which would be abandoned once civilization collapsed. Might as well have a camera if I have the computer.

  10. All my favourite computer games and their most updated versions.

  11. Crochet hooks, sewing needles, yarn, fabric, thread, my sewing machine and all the other accessories.

  12. Some people. Possibly random, and some family. Anyone who bugged me too much would be thrown off the island though.

  13. A taser, old fashioned stocks and whatever else I might need to help remind all those people that I am the world dominatrix/ leader of the island now. Anyone who forgets will be given a not so subtle reminder.
