Vintage, not Original, Pet Rock Manual

Found this (link below). I'm not changing anything, typos and spelling included. History makes mistakes. People shouldn't always come along and fix them.

There is this one pet that doesn't cost a lot of money or your time..... that's right. A Rock!A pet rock.

It's Great because it requires no work. You don't need your parent's permission to get one. Makes a nice paperweight. They don't drop fur or feathers all over the place and, of course, don't eat, bite or poop. and doesn't complain at all.

It's not so good because it just sits there and don't want to talk.

The best part, they don't have any requirements and come free of cost. All we have to do is look by the side of the road.

Pet Rocks are ideal for both the inexperienced pet owner and for those who are too busy to spend a lot of time on pet care.

When you have learned a little on training and maintaining them you could easily add to your pocket money by selling them to friends and relatives or your local shops.

How to select your Pet Rock

As with the selection of any pet, you will need to know exactly what you want from your pet Rock. you might want to carry around with you to keep you company and show off or, you may want a Rock to guard your house when you are not home.

So, in this case, the Guard Rock needs to be quite large and fierce looking and will need quite a large space to live in. Guard Rocks also like to sit out in the front garden watching the world go by while smaller Pet Rocks love to live on or near the computer.

After you work out the size that you want finding your new companion is not a problem anymore.

Don't make the mistake of taking the first rock that you see because each will have a different personality. Take your your time and choose the best.

Making your Pet look good

The look of your chosen pet rock would depend on the size, shape and texture to give it the best style and finish..

It will need a mouth, eyes of course, and you may also want to give it ears, a tail and legs to make it look like the pet you want to keep for a long long time.

Let your imagination flow while you decorate your Pet Rock with paint, fur, feathers or almost any other available stuff. Make it look nice.

A Guard Rock, should be of waterproof materials and glue, incase you would like to sit out in the front garden and soak in the sun together.

Once you are finished with decorating your pet, make sure you have a name for it ready at hand.

Make your pet rock listen to you.

All you need to do is.................ask them to "Sit" and that's about it.

Make it firm but deliver in a caring tone.

You should take your pet for a long walk at least once a week Unless you have a very large Guard Rock .

Avoid giving your pet rocks (as with any other animals) chocolate or sweets and cakes as it will make them sick.

Share your family of Pet rocks with others.......for a price of course!

Once you have mastered the decoration and training of Pet Rocks you may wish to make a little business of them.

Pet Rocks can be sold to friends and relatives or you can even get them sold by some of your local shops.

you can talk to pet shops, novelty shops and newsagents. if you want them in the shops.

You will find it easier to get shops to take them if you offer the Pet Rocks on a consignment basis. That is, where the shop displays them and pays you as each is sold.

Stone Flowers: Sculpted from Rock

I take photos of flowers carved in rock/ stone. Stone flowers are found on old buildings, cemeteries and other likely places. They have an aged, weathered beauty. Flowers are one of the things I especially look for when I explore old buildings.

I especially like flowers carved or sculpted from stone. It must be because I really like rock, history and flowers. So a combination of those things is pretty appealing.

Have you taken photos of stone flowers? Where did you find them?

Consider this a great time to test drive your digital camera's black and white feature. Stone sculptures tend to look great photographed with black and white film. In the age of digital cameras you can take the photo without changing film (as digital cameras don't use film). Just change the settings on your camera before you take the photo. Or, when you are looking at your photos, try giving the photo the black and white look using a photo editor.

Stone Flowers Sculpture

Is it Carving or Sculpting?

Should you wonder, carving is the method of sculpting. Sculpture covers more than carving. However, carving is all about shaping the stone (or other material used) by removing chunks of it according to a plan. For most of history the stone carvers tools were a hammer and chisel.

Modern stone carving uses heat and lasers to shape and cut the rock. This probably saves a lot of fingers and hands when it comes to stone carving.

How to Carve Stone

Start as Pumpkin Carver

If you really want to be a stone carver start with a pumpkin. See how the planning goes, start using the tools and then practice the skills you need. A pumpkin will be softer than stone but also a lot more forgiving and easier on your hands. Plus, a pumpkin can be put out in the garden to be composted but any mistakes you make in stone are... well, made in stone. Stone is pretty permanent.

I'm at the level of pumpkin carver myself. As much as I admire and love to photograph the flowers carved in rock, I don't see myself trying to learn that art. I'd rather stick to photography, illustrating, writing and sewing sort of stuff.

Petroglyphs are Forever

Although tattoos are the fashion, petroglyphs will last longer. What would you carve into a rock forever? Maybe something lighthearted, fun or inspirational? A message to the Mothership? A note in a bottle to the future humans on the planet? A reminder to always brush your teeth and do your homework, for your children? What would you carve on a rock?

Red Jasper

Some stones radiate high levels of energy, such as quartz (especially in smoky or rutilated form). Others work much more slowly. One of these is red jasper. In some Native American cultures red jasper is considered to be the symbolic blood of the earth, and it's generally thought to be one of the best stones for connecting with the deep, stabilizing energies of the earth.

In the chakra system red relates to emotions, and of all the red stones it is the least volatile. Jasper is a stone which makes its effects known slowly and gradually.

It is considered an emotionally calming stone, and can be an excellent stone for either those who are hypersensitive to crystalline energy and find it difficult to work with, or for those who like change to be a gradual, unfolding process.

In this context it is particularly recommended for gem essences. It's also a very good stone to use when someone is upset, and needs to be calmed down.

Found at: Our Glass Wire - http://ourglasswire.com/LORE/REDJASPER-LORE.htm

I had a red jasper stone wired into necklace a couple of weeks ago. I really liked it. But then I lost it for a few days this week. Things went a bit bad this week. I don't give a stone credit for causing a bad week but for some reason I feel it was connected. Maybe because I choose the red jasper as a stone for myself, giving myself space/ permission to make life changes, accept some things and change others. Anyway, it was on my mind a lot while it was missing. Tonight my Mom found it. I had left it with a work shirt, it must have come off when I took off the shirt.

Anyway, it's back now.
