An Exciting Day of Floor Cleaning

I spent today cleaning up things. It began with the kitchen, dishes cause I also had to make my own breakfast and coffee this morning. After that I swept and then washed the floors. I forgot however to include the bedroom and bathroom in the washing part. But, I need to get a second scrub on it tomorrow so, no big deal.

I put away things, papers and the odd book. I stacked and packed things so there is some small hope I could make my life small enough to go unnoticed. Sometimes that actually is a challenge. I tend to be a paper packrat. I keep clippings and whole magazines even. I keep books too. It's so damned hard to let go of a good book. I think actually, though don't tell them, it would be easier to let go of a fairly good man than a really good book. If the man was really good he'd supply a me with a bookstore to just take what I wanted. Or, a credit card I never actually had to pay. Oh, those dreams about winning the lottery! sigh

Anyway, stepping back to some form of reality... I washed dishes again in the afternoon cause no one came by to offer to make me coffee and clean the cup after. Why don't people just come over and offer to wash your dishes for you? Wouldn't that be a nice friendly thing. If you have new neighbours try that one out on them. Bet they'd be surprised. I wonder if they'd think you were really great or just really scary. The world is so weird these days.

I moved my area rugs around. A different pattern for the runway since I only have one hall, the apartment is pretty much a hallway the size of a walk-in closet. I like it though. It makes you feel you could just sit in a chair with quiet (non-screechy) wheels and get to everything with just a swoosh of your chair. I could shoot myself from one end of the apartment to the other if I rigged up some kind of elastic slingshot effect. That would be kind of fun and interesting. Of course, aim would be important. Hitting the walls would not be very nice, I'm not a pinball. I doubt the landlord would go for the idea of me coating the walls with rubber to bounce off of. Spoilsport.

So, after washing floors and dishes and things the only thing left to polish off the day was a round of clothes washing. So I did. It was a day of much soap and watery things. The last load is done and it's just sitting there nagging at me to hang it all up before I am allowed to creep in under that pile of clean clothes to my snuggly bed. Clothes piles are mean and nasty things.

But I was thinking... how lovely it would be to have a male slave. Not for screwy, silly stuff like sex. Geez... who are we kidding, women can do that better without a man getting in the way. A man slave would start his day making your breakfast and coffee and then cleaning it all up. All you would have to do is smell it and eat it. By the time you arise it's all clean and put away. You'd never know the kitchen was even used that morning.

Then man slave would be allowed to shower and whatever, leaving the sparkling clean bathroom for me whenever I finally decide to get up.

Yes, you knew it was a fantasy as soon as I wrote about a man who leaves a bathroom sparkling clean. It may sparkle, but it's not clean.

So that was my kind of day. Cleaning up, coffee drinking and fluffing off with the computer. I did listen to a few CD's this morning while the male slave was being delivered. Yeah, yeah... a grrl can daydream. A grrl does daydream, I talked to the imaginary male slave while I worked today. But, that's ok, no one heard but me.

I'm a Thinking Blogger

Thank you Leigh for the Thinking Blogger Award. She even likes my doofus drawings. :)

There are a few rules for those who win and pass along the Thinking Blogger Award.

1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs which make you think.

2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.

3. Optional: Proudly display the Thinking Blogger Award.\

Blogs that make me think (not specifying what they make me think about):

Happy and Blue2: Though he stopped publishing his blog (yet again) so I am linking to the Useless Men where his remains linger. Or where he can still be found, pick one. I miss his blog, his little animal stories and especially those family Christmas and renovations posts. He always made me think there was hope, that a real woman really could find a real man and not need to hide the body later.

Rainy Pete: What do you expect from a strange man wearing a red clown nose? His photos will make you laugh in spite of yourself or wish you could have been there to see the scene as he must have seen it. He's a guy who makes being a husband and Father and living in Hamilton look good. No small task, especially in the case of Steel Town.

Death By Children: I'm new to reading Christopher's blog. Another Dad, is that some kind of coincedence? He writes long posts with a lot of thought about the everyday things in life. There is humour but often some really interesting bit of truth and male insight.

Jann Arden: Yes, that Jann Arden. She's a Canadian songwriter, a sometimes fat grrl too and I like to play her CDs cause not many songs can really make me cry and then laugh in a really evil, wicked way. Her journal is really open and I bet she thinks she says too much too easily, cause I think the same about what I write.

Dave MacIntyre: Sometimes I skim, cause I am out of patience for poetry. But, even reading between the lines you catch something of the spirit here with the photos and the poetry. A lot of time and thought has gone into this blog.

Laundry Night in Canada

Why does it take so long to do laundry? There are other things that take a long time but I can at least enjoy something about them. Like taking the bus to get somewhere. It can be kind of bland when you do the same route each day, but there is the hope of the journey being interesting in some way. Tonight on the way home a guy was babbling away on the streetcar. He sounded less than intelligent but at least this time it wasn't me he had latched onto. (I seem to attract crazy people who want to talk to someone). Anyway, one thing he said made me laugh though quietly so he wouldn't notice me and come on over.

First he said about what a great job the streetcar driver was doing. How it was hard work and very complicated. Which is debatable, it's not brain surgery after all. Anyway, then he looks outside and says something like, "Look at all those guys over there, just lying around like they're dead." I thought he was looking at a couple of teenaged boys who were slurping down slushies while they played around with their skateboards, waiting to cross at the lights. But, I was wrong. Cause crazy guy elaborates a minute later. "Oh, they are actually dead." I think you had to be there but "they" were graves in the cemetery which I pass each day on the streetcar a block from where I get off. It was pretty funny in the moment. I did wonder if he was trying to be clever but he had been so anti-clever for so long before that I just can't believe he suddenly grew a really sharp sarcastic wit.

On goes the laundry tonight. I had four loads cause I got ambitious and decided to wash all the sheets first. Even the new ones I had not unpacked yet. But, I decided not to wait for them to dry and used my old red ones (my favourites even though a pillow case got lost when I was still stuck with taking everything to the laundry matt). So I have a fresh bed when ever all that laundry is finally done so I can curl up into my fresh bed with it's soft and comfortable cotton jersey sheets. Mmm.

Crazy, But That's How It Is

I like getting those packs of sugar, salt, pepper, ketchup and vinegar from restaurants. Often I bring a few home from those fast food places that have them out for everyone to help themselves. I don't take coffee creamers (past really bad experience with one of those quietly breaking, being forgotten and then really stinking up my purse). But, I take the others and I'm careful. Sometimes I still forget them for awhile, weeks even. But all those condiment things are really made to last now. I bet they will give that famous Twinkie and the cockroaches a run for their money eventually. Of course, that just makes you wonder why we eat them. (No, not the cockroaches, unless you like them in that way).

Anyway getting those little packs of condiments saves me buying the big containers for things I almost never use. I did break down and buy pepper though cause I have been going to town on tuna wraps and they just NEED pepper. But, I don't use salt or sugar. Once, long ago, I was addicted to salt but that was when I could count my age on two hands. Nowadays I keep a bottle of ketchup in the fridge and a jug of vinegar in the cupboard cause they are good for somethings, not just edible things. Vinegar is an eco safe/ green cleaner and much cheaper than the other fancily packaged stuff. Ketchup... well ketchup is good to torment your brother with. Also handy for really sick April Fools jokes once a year. Not that I'd do something like that.

It's not that I'm cheap entirely. I like that bit of the vagabond lifestyle. The idea that I'm living like someone who doesn't have a lot of things tying them down and could pack up and move with just a moment's notice. I think the best example of that was Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan. That's about all I remember from that movie, the lifestyle of the Madonna character.

Anyway, that's about it for my thoughts for the day. I'm turning my brain down to low early tonight. Painters are supposed to be starting early on the upstairs and I plan to avoid being here for the aroma. I hope it is mostly dry and not so smelly when I get back. I'm allergic to fresh paint. I'm sure I wouldn't care for having it wedged under my skin dry either but the fresh stuff really does mess me up. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. But, I hope it will be ok. They say it should dry quick cause it's latex. I've heard that story before.

I will be away Thursday sometime. My Mom needs me to fix her computer. I wish she would try to learn how to run it herself. She does try for short periods of time but forgets everything by the next day. I don't mind helping her but I feel guilty cause I'm not there to help her right now as if it's all partly my fault. Crazy but that's how it is.
