Hand Drawing a Comic

One thing I do know about drawing a comic is that it can't be too detailed if you hope to get them out there on a regular basis. Maybe it's different for those who aren't hand drawing each one.

Thursday Thirteen #26: Doodling Essentials

Thursday Thirteen: 13 things I have used for blog doodles:

A pink breast cancer floaty pen (it has a great fine point).

A pack of pencil crayons.

A pack of felt tipped markers.

A Lotus pen I found in a backpack I bought at the thrift store.

My HP Photo Scanner, my treat to myself after getting divorced.

Microsoft Image Composer (It came with FrontPage).

Plain, blank, unlined white paper bought at Zellers.

Napkins from the coffee shops and fast food places around Ontario.

My Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 digital camera.

A black fine tip marker which I bought at Walmart, it ended up leaking all over me each time I used it so it was soon retired.

A set of colourful gel pens which are a bit too much on the light side to be used often.

An official doodle pad with coloured paper which is fun to draw on but scans on the dark and dreary side.

Post It note pads, yellow and blue.

Zack is here, just after I posted my list. He says he should be on my list cause he gives me ideas.

Be Your Own Queen of the World Diva

Just pucker up and blow… if you want to go with some kind of spray paint doodle. I don’t think the paint tastes that great so I just stick to a semi-ordinary pen and blank, white paper. I scan my doodles then plaster them to my personal blog. The odd thing is that people like them. Thank you to those who have sent kind and encouraging comments.

Claire and I began Doodle Week this year. I think I came up with the plan but I know it would not have gotten as far as it did without Claire. She doodles too.

I draw my stick figure grrls in pen and ink. I use a small photo scanner to turn them digital. Then I use software to turn them the right way around, resize them and erase smudges and little lines I regret. Claire uses software to create her doodles. Her doodles are very different from mine in appearance. You can also draw your doodle or use some other art skills such as collage and take a digital photo of your creation. I’ve learned to make sure I don’t get my own shadow or any other in the way when I take the digital photo. Also, if you scan your drawing, place a sheet of unblemished white paper behind it. Makes it come out sharper.

Claire and I have different styles for creating our digital images but the really odd thing is how we both have some kind of queen/ diva of the world feeling. I think drawing something for your blog does that. When are you taking more of a risk than drawing something for your blog, to publish out there in the big, wide, digital world? Typing a journal entry is not the same. Your letters are perfectly formed and spaced. It’s only when your hand is unsupported by your keyboard that you realize just how imperfect and down right skillful you really are. Let’s just say each one is very original.

There are some resources and groups for bloggers who want to get into this more creative aspect with their own blogs. I wrote a post to the EntreCard blog about this and will carry over the links from that post. (I’m lazy that way).

Why is it Socially Acceptable to Be Snobby

Wink looks neat but will not work well enough for me. It will be SO nice to have the new computer. Yet it really does annoy and aggravate me that people expect everyone to have the latest, newest hardware and software. It's a very arrogant attitude.

Snobbery really bugs me! But it's hugely common and socially acceptable cause it makes people feel good to have someone underfoot. Everyone wants some kind of underlings to look down on so they can look up at themselves. Maybe that's why I never get anywhere with my life. I tend to think I'm nobody special. Though even I think less of street people. Fear them a little too but don't think of them as being on my same playing field. Yet, I also worry about ending up there myself. In my family I was voted most likely to end up a bag lady. More than once.

Anyway, I will save my link to myself at Wink for later. I do have the money for the new computer now. It's just a matter of when and where. I really don't think I can wait all the way till August. I want it now, I'm so excited to really start computer shopping. I've been looking online. Seems Staples is the best place cause they have a one year warrantee and sometimes have a bundle/ package which includes the new flat monitors. That is a Must this time around. Last time I was getting a new computer they were the latest new thing and way over my price range. Not this time!

She Who Must Be Heard!

I don't blog to make friends or cause I really have something to say that the world must know or cause it's trendy and I'm ultra fashionable. I blog cause I want someone to hear me. I want to believe someone is listening to me. What I say or what anyone hears isn't all that important, just that the transaction is taking place.

I think this is something true for a lot of women. If men ever figured this out they would be dangerous. Luckily, very few of them actually listen to us enough to figure out how much we want them to listen to us.

I've joined yet another of those track your blog readers things, like MyBlogLog, Blog Catalog and Blog Woods. The new one is BumpZee. It's not that I want to build traffic, I'm not selling anything. I just want to see that real people have been here, different real people too not just the same few over and over again. Or myself. It's nice that blog counters can be set to ignore your own visits to your site. Though, in the early days I spent enough time hitting the refresh button just to turn over a few numbers.

I don't like to think I'm lonely. That's not the person I want to be. Yet I guess I am. Not totally cause I like being alone, not having to be pleasant and interesting on demand. It's nice having the place to yourself. Being able to do things you'd never want someone to catch you doing. But, I miss having someone to talk to about nothing. That's where the blog comes in. I type about nothing instead of talking. Maybe it saves air, do you breathe less if you talk less?

Anyway, I will keep blogging just to know I'm being heard. I will keep adding reader tracker junk and checking my blog counters. Cause that's what keeps me coming back to type some more.
