Reading and Writing Mysteries

This was originally part of the Suite101 University ecourses offered for free. I wanted to preserve the information for myself and others as Suite101 is taking all of the ecourse University content down.

Mysteries

By Janet Blaylock

Introduction

This course is a pre-requisite to "Writing Mysteries."

What are your favorite genres? Romance perhaps? Maybe it's Adventures or Comedies? How about the more intense genres of Mysteries, Detective Fiction, Suspense, Horror, or just good old Thrillers?

If you enjoy reading books by the earlier writers such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie; or the later writers such as Catherine Coulter, Nevada Barr, Sara Paretsky; or the famous authors of suspense or thrillers such as Mary Higgins Clark, Tess Gerritsen, Stephen King, or John Grisham; then you may find yourself investigating the cases right along with the detectives. This is the essence of a good thriller/suspense book because they have already captured you and will now hold you hostage until the plot is inevitably revealed. …more

The Dead End Dating Series by Kimberly Raye

Kimberly Raye Writes the Dead End Dating Series with Lil Marchette

Lil Marchette is a fashionista vampire. Labels matter and she does like her clothes. But, keep reading. Lil wants her own life. She begins her own dating agency for paranormals like vampires and werewolves (who are real party girls). Lil struggles to keep her business afloat while keeping her vampire status from her friend and solo employee.

Lil meets Ty, of course there has to be a hunky vampire guy... but Ty is not for Lil. Ty isn't a born vampire and only born vampires are able to have children. Lil's parents would never approve and though she wants her own life she can't leave her family behind. Even though they are pretty high on the eccentric level. (Not by their own born vampire standards of course).

Dead End Dating is the ongoing story of Lil as she tries to balance her life, her business, help friends and dating clients and keep her family from intruding into what she has built as her own life, for herself. Plus, she is a vampire and has those kind of needs too.

I don't identify with the world of the fashionable types. It was a big plus for me that Lil is written as a woman who likes life, colour and being her own person. I like Lil because she wants to make something of herself and she doesn't give up. I also like her efforts to pay her bills and get her dating agency off the ground. Things don't always go her way, like someone in a romance novel.

Horror Literature

SuiteU is closing and will disappear soon. There is a lot of great content there. People who wrote the courses put a lot into them. It's a shame for them to just disappear. Here is the free ecourse for Horror Literature. I'd like to write horror but so far it all starts out all wrong for me. I need a new way to write it.

Horror Literature By Catherine Bitzer

Introduction

Welcome to the lair of horror literature! Dark minds over centuries have scared the wits out of their readers by harping on our most subconscious of fears. Below is a description of what you might expect to find in the course.

FEARS: CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Fear, the greatest ally of horror literature, has had a home in the human heart since the beginning of time. According to H.P. Lovecraft, a horror fiction master whom you will learn more about in the course, said that fear is the oldest and deepest emotion of humankind. And he is right.

Consider for example your childhood. Were you afraid? What were you afraid of? Abandonment? The death of your parents? These are the two greatest childhood fears. …more

Really Decaffeinated

Today was really decaffinated I got out of bed when I needed to pee.

I feel like I'm not quite, really on the planet.

I'm so sad. My kitten got run over this afternoon. I found him when I was coming home from school. His head was all squished. I took some photos. I'll miss him. Poor kitty.

Last night I had to masturbate twenty times. I'm so horny. Click here to see my website.

I want to tell the world bite me, slowly, sensually, just make it good.

I am updating this journal for the first time in ages, because I've been in prison.

Today, I got a digital camera! Yes! Here's some photos of my cock.

I want to say thanks to my left boob for keeping my right boob company.

I went to the doctor yesterday, and he said the blackmaill cheque would be late this week. And bipolar disorder.

You should all do this quiz! It's amazingly accurate. You just put in your name and birthday, and it will tell you what your favourite sexual position is.

I'm reading a book called "The Pleasure Slave". Why isn't this job listed on Monster.com?

That's enough for now. But I'll leave you with cold coffee. I'm going to make a fresh pot.

Redhead Girls in Fiction

The ultimate Raggedy Ann site. I've bought the pattern and some fabric but I've yet to actually start making the dolls. I have mine up here by the desk. My Mom made her with grey hair. Even she wonders why she did that now. It was what she had around then, but grey?!! It does make her pretty unique among Raggedy Ann's. All the popular dolls have red hair of some shade.

I think Raggedy Ann is the US attempt at our Canadian Anne of Green Gables. Of course there is Pippi Longstocking too. I'm not sure if she isn't English though. Odd how all three of my favourite fictional characters are all red heads. I'm not, my hair is a lovely shade of brown, chestnut. My little sister is a redhead but she just isn't someone you could picture as the Anne/ Ann type. Though we did call her Orphan Annie when she was a kid. Her hair was out of control back then, just too darn curly. Cute though. :)
