I think it should have been done, or at least monitored and not left to become a dependency, a very long time ago. Canada is the second largest country in the world, it is silly to trade outside of Canada rather than keep our money here, supporting and building Canada. Of course, there are no time machines. So the marketing war with the US just goes on. A waste of time and energy which could be put to better use. If the decision is made to stop trade with the US then stop and move on from there. A cut off had to happen sometime. Now is good.

Does Canada want them? Should they be considered as a possible threat the way the Japanese were during the second world war? Will US people currently living here be sent to camps?

I'm not off my rocker. The US is a war mongering country. Currently at war, promoting more wars, and picking fights. It would be kind to just call them bad neighbours.

If I have thought of this, how many others are feeling somewhat the same? I've read posts from US people in the US, condoling Canada, feeling "embarrassed" about their government's actions and spoken/ written words. Embarrassed is petty for how I feel when I stop to really think about all of this.

Regardless, this is what is happening, this is what the US is allowing to continue to happen. Whether the US people have regrets... seems almost irrelevant because this is not the first month, not the first year that this has been going on. When will it be stopped? How long will the US allow this to continue? Some of it is to their benefit, else why would they do it at all? So...

I keep hearing about more US people wanting to move to Canada. But, Canada is a different country, with different rules, enforced by law and those unwritten, but expected in our communities. There is a bill C-3 granting US people Canadian citizenship as "Canadians by descent". How valid is that? Will they be allowed to bring their guns and other weapons across the border? Are they tested to see if they know much at all about Canada, our provinces, our culture, our history?

Sure the US people want to come to Canada, to leave dictatorship, to leave what's broken, and the chaos in the US, but what are they bringing with them? Do we want their proven lack of tolerance and understanding? Do we want their obsession with guns and their ammunition? I could spend time and turn this into a longer list. But, I've written enough to give the idea, my thoughts as I read about this latest (can't think of just one word for it) with the US and its people.

Canada is not a landfill for disenfranchised US people. Note, I do not call them Americans. Americans can be anyone from North America, South America, or Central America. So they are US people because calling them USians or USers seems impolite.

I read this post today, from a Facebook person in Ohio. What I didn't include in my comment below is the irony that America is short for North America so Lake Ontario would be renamed Lake North America. Not what Trump intended and still not a good name for a lake that is only a smaller part of the whole of North America.

The Trump era continues and is just getting worse. I hope the people of Canada never forget any of this, far into our history. Never consider the US a real neighbour or friend. Being a good neighbour or friend isn't something you put on and take off like a mask. Know always that they are a selfish and ignorant country, and in general, proud of it.

The 50% tariffs hit Saturday after talks collapsed, on about $20 billion of Canadian goods. Carney announced Canada matches dollar for dollar starting September 8th. Monday, Trump told Canadian leaders to "fall in line" or face consequences "far WORSE," and threatened to take tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50% on January 1st. Then this morning he posted that the United States is giving "serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don't expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer." Same play as the Gulf of Mexico. A lake we share, half of which isn't ours.

I posted about "Lake America" last year when the propaganda started about the "Gulf of America". I sometimes struggle to feel sympathy for the people and businesses of the US. After all your political party chose him and then the people of your country voted for him - twice. Why is a man, found guilty of crimes in your country, showing signs of mental unwellness, and unable to work well with others (to say the least) why is this man allowed to be the head of your country? Its like something out of a bad science fiction movie, made in the US, of course. Yes, I feel something for the plight of the US people who regret(?) their choices, but I will never ever forget this.
