Thursday Thirteen: Mysterious Stained Books.

I got this idea from reading Mimzie's Musings, the post "The Public Library Gave me Ebola". Here are thirteen things that could be staining, polluting and possibly infecting the pages of a borrowed or second hand book. Not meant to discourage anyone from getting library books or shopping at the thrift and second hand stores. I shop second hand myself. Cooties or not, it's the best way to find older books from writers you like.

1. Ketchup. If you make real ketchup it is not that bright red like a clown nose. I can see someone munching away while reading and having a french fry try to escape into the book.

2. Hair colour. Mine was hair colour. I took a photo of it cause Mimzie has photos of her infected books in her blog post.

3. Lipstick. Not sure I'd like a book quite enough to kiss it but you never know.

4. Insects. They know they are going to outlast us and now they want to make sure they can read too.

5. Blood. Most likely from a paper cut. You know, when good books attack.

6. Blood. Nosebleed. Reading too fast.

7. The remains of a really good latte or some other coffee type of drink. I've had it happen. You just put your cup down in the wrong spot and suddenly there's a dash of the good stuff spilled or dribbled out over the side of your cup and onto something else.

8. Spaghetti sauce flicks. You know what it's like when you start sucking up those long noodles. Just like tiny alien spaceships setting out to explore the world. They seem to get all over the place.

9. Glue. Someone was working on a cut and paste or other kind of art project and used the book to weigh something down. Left a smudge of glue squished out and onto the book itself.

10. Paint. Just a trick to fool people into thinking the book is diseased.

11. Strands of hair. Its' not just in your soup any more.

12. Dust, it's everywhere else did you really think your book could escape? They can't even run very fast.

13. Ink. Plenty of times I have seen pen ink accidentally or purposely written in a book. Not just those Canadians writing notes about desperately trying to get away from the snow either.

Spring makes me think of tulips and other early Spring flowers. I like the rain in Spring, it helps melt away the snow. The last of the snow is usually pretty messy looking with road dirt, salt and sand and other things contributed from people's pets. I think the only ugly thing in Spring is what is uncovered once the snow melts. One of the best things are the fresh rain and new growth, buds on trees and the grass suddenly becomes green and lush again.

I should do a Spring Cleaning. Not real keen on it. Daylight Saving wasn't too bad for me. But it will help that I have this week off. I really can't think of a best or worst for Daylight Savings time. It's only an hour after all. One good thing, it makes an excuse for being a bit late for work at least one day. Of course, it works better if you happen to live alone and there isn't anyone there to 'remind' you.

You've been vagabonding around, exploring other cultures, other planets and learning a lot of new and interesting things. The most interesting thing was on the planet you visited just last Spring the natives had some custom where if a woman and man touched skin to skin they became promised in that planet's version of marriage. Since then you've had a really interesting alien guy following you around, declaring himself to belong to you forever.

Kind of nice in a sappy, romantic way. He's not so bad really. He pays his own way too. Once he learned you are from Earth he began learning all your customs too. So now he opens doors, buys flowers and even makes attempts at writing poetry to your eyelashes. It's not all bad. But, he does get in the way. After all, you weren't planning to take on a partner any time soon. There are so many more planets to be explored. He really wants to make a home, with you.

So what do you do with him?

You win a house. Now you just have to design it! How big will it be, bungalow, ranch, or monstrosity? How many rooms and what kind of rooms will they be? What colours will you use, how much will be wood, stone or plastic? It's your house for the making.

A brain, a smile and taking some interest in their appearance. I'm not really sure what makes one person sexy and another just ok. Being clean is a big plus. Being friendly, having a smile is a certainly another step in that direction. I think in the long run it comes from inside more than outside. Being able to carry and start a conversation. Being good to other people, listening and making people feel you care about what they have to say. Charm and charisma are sexy but not something you can fake easily. I think a person who is not especially attractive can be sexy.

I don't feel sexy. If anything about me is sexy maybe it's my hair. I like my colour, rich and dark and it has just the right amount of curl to twine around my finger. When I spend a little time on it (for me that means brushing it after a shower) it looks really good. I think it makes me feel sexy too.
