How tough are you on your own spelling, grammar, punctuation and typos? I think everyone should be watching for mistakes. Whether English is your first language or not, if you are using English you should be able to have basic skills. At the very least you should not be letting stuff get by that spellcheck would have caught. Spellcheck isn't perfect but it does know quite a bit. Why would anyone choose to ignore it or not use it at all?

I do think we are all going to have mistakes at some point, however. Unless you are an English major in university or a paid editor somewhere, we are all going to miss something somewhere. Do your best, use the tools at hand and proofread, self edit and get a friend to check it over now and then. Another person might catch something you don't realize you are missing.

How are you on proofreading your own writing? Are you your worst grammar Nazi nightmare or do you tend to be pretty casual about it all?

I want to know everything. Knowing I'm not immortal to see the future, or able to create a time machine to look at the past and the future... bothers me. How can I ever be satisfied when there is so much I don't know! 

Of course, the more I find out about the more I want to know. Knowledge is bottomless, endless and I will run out of time long before I run out of viable brain matter, and that bugs me.

The future is out there. I can see some of it, imagine more of it. I look at what we have and try to deduce what will come. Without immorality or a time machine, that's the best I can do. History is alive in our words, our traditions, our beliefs and our lifestyle.

I enjoy history. But, so many people think it is dull when you present it as a topic of conversation. I think they are assuming history is all about long winded tomes in the library under attack by dust bunnies and cobwebs. History is right now, each second passes into history. History is how we can see into the future.

How would the room you are in be different, if you were not there?

This is like the thing about the light in the fridge going off when you close the door. Or, if no one is there to hear it, does a tree still make a noise when it falls in the forest. The whole thing about not being there bugs me. If I am not there, how are things different? If I miss my bus one morning, is the bus ride as uneventful as usual, or do I miss something? What happens if you happen to turn left instead of right? The road not taken.

Would the room be different if I was not here? Yes. For one thing I'd turn off the computer, the TV and the lights before I left if I was planning on being out of the room awhile. Dust would be able to settle where I am currently seated in the chair. What about other things, little things and minor details? If I step out of the room is that lucky for me? Is that the very moment the old tree finally gives up the ghost and falls on this half of the house? Or is it unlucky? If I'm out of the room is that when the dust bunnies really start to mess things up?

Kirsten is taking up the cause of the Personal Blogger. I find it hard to stick to writing about blogging, publishing or writing from the personal perspective. Somewhere along the way it dips into getting comments, traffic and readers and then you find yourself in the land of the SEO gurus who want to sell you their e-books about blogging. It is all a circle.
