One of the Other Games I Play

Adventure Quest - It's an online (via web browser, no need to download anything special) role playing game. My nephew and I play it and compare scores, monsters fought and so on. There are special events, more often now than when I joined a few years ago. I just recently became a Guardian (paid player) but you can play free as long as you like. Guardians get extras but freebie players don't get shafted. I played free a long time before paying the one time fee to join. Mainly I did it cause Zack still likes the game even though he is 12 now and very seriously becoming a man, not a boy. Don't call him a boy! :)

As the Software Updates...

Setting up Mom's computer to be on the wireless home network. Have to find a way to make the hardware/ software compatible with Windows Vista. The guy at Future Shop said it would be fine. But, seems I returned this same hardware to WalMart cause it didn't work. Yet it cost double the price at Future Shop. So, even if it does work I may return it and go back to save $50 by shopping WalMart. Kind of sick that they would have such a huge price mark up at Future Shop. But, will make sure it actually does work first. Haven't even told my Mom about that side of things yet.

Also, woke up this morning still thinking about a guy at the grocery store last night. Funny thing is that I never even looked at him. Just noticed his hand reaching down to put the divider thing on the conveyor belt. Said thanks. Then noticed him turning my cereal box so he could read it (I assume). After he was gone my Mom (we had a shopping day together yesterday) said he was really good looking. I hadn't even looked. But, I've been thinking about that little bit of time over and over. It will make a good story, when I get writing it.

It also made me think about writing something about romance. My sister has been on my mind too. Not the one with kids but the whiskey drinking, soccer playing, single redhead. She doesn't seem to notice guys that like her. Seems to think it is just a co-incidence that a friend calls her on Valentines Day. Duh! Some people seem to be Romantically Challenged. I thought that would be a good name for the column/ blog/ whatever. But, it couldn't be a daily. I don't have that many romantic thoughts rattling around in my brain. Weekly could be do-able. I took over a romantic topic for a very short time on Suite101.com once. Before things went kind of silly there and I gave up on the network.

Off to find software updates...

Smiley Saturday #2

Posted for Smiley Saturday:

I went out today. Last day of my vacation time off from work. Just have my usual weekend to go before I am back at work on Tuesday now.

I went to Zellers for a lunch out. Was a disappointment. The halibut burger was really good the first time I ordered it. Today they weren't even cleaning the tables off between customers. Gordon Ramsey would not approve.

But I smile about the new nightgown I bought myself. Pretty with tiny green polka dots on a lighter green background. Even some smocking with off white roses at the top. I'm wearing it now. Should have washed it first. But I didn't want to wait.

A new purse too. Some kind of brown leather like clone. A backpack shape but smaller. Lots of nice pockets for everything. I just finished moving everything over from the old purse which was a bigger backpack type that keeps falling off my shoulder and aggravating me.

On the way home I decided to take a taxi. I got the driver I used to get when I was working midnights. Hadn't seen him in awhile. Was nice to catch up with how he is doing.

Your Naked Head

You're having a really bad hair day. So bad... your hair gets all ticked off and goes on strike, walking right off your head and off to... somewhere. You try to follow your hair, try to grab it back and plead with it to give you a chance to make things better up there on top of your head. But, your hair just keeps moving until it slips around a corner and you lose sight of it.

So now you're bald. Not so bad, not the end of the world.

What does your naked head look like? All your life (the parts you can remember) your hair has covered and concealed your head. What does it really look like under there? Think of it as your own first walk on the moon... what does your head really look like?

Ode to the Goldfish

The last floating goldfish is still in the pond, making me feel bad. I did my best by them, tried to find out what we would need to do for keeping them alive in the pond over winter. The nice young man at the garden centre was very sure the pond was deep enough and as long as I could dig a hole through the ice and snow once the Spring thaw started, the goldfish would be fine. Well, something went wrong. Maybe it was the long winter and all the tons of snow we had this season past. Everyone is saying it was a very long and cold winter. The taxi driver who gave me a ride from the grocery store today said he hasn't seen a winter this cold and snowy since 2001. It's really unfair of those goldfish to die this way.

Before the winter I made sure to keep them fed. I was even getting to know them a bit, on an individual basis. I never did quite manage to count them all. They just didn't stay in place long enough and then there always seemed to be a few hiding down deeper in the pond. I was feeling kind of sad for that one guy that always seemed to be alone, the left over one, the guy no one else would play with. But, really, the more I watched the more it seemed to be all his own fault. He just kept swimming out from the group, didn't give any of the other fish a chance to be friendly and get to know him.

Now they are all gone. All just floating bodies, buried in the garden now. My brother used a shovel to flip them all out on a day when there was still ice in the pond. He missed three. Or they were just stuck somehow. I tried to get them with the shovel but they kept slipping off the end. Plus, the pond really stinks. More than just stinky, it's gut wrenchingly gross. Not so bad now that time has passed, the ice has melted and the water has been exposed to the elements a few weeks.
