Men Probably Should Not Read This

I just had another idea for a mini project or possibly an article, assuming I find the right niche/ market.

Once upon a time I wrote for the HerPlanet network. There is no point in adding a link there cause the whole thing is now gone. Sad to see it go. Anyway, the women who managed the sites (I did a site for writers called HerCorner) would also chat about life, the network and everything on an email list, just for us grrls. Anyway, when referring to their husbands (beloved or not so beloved) they called them DH. If you were guessing would you assume DH was darling husband or darned husband?

For some reason my mind flashed on that old tidbit. I wonder (I'm sure there are) other ways women politely and not so politely refer to their husbands and significant others in code. I will post what I find. But, I think the husband types should bypass this thread. Wouldn't want to hurt their feelings or get their undies in a knot. It's just for fun.

I'm Back with Clean Undies

I'm back! The plan was to stay a couple of days, not five! My sister has a small business and three kids and she needed a lot of help. Full time help really. The kind of help you used to get when you were looking for a wife to homemake and raise happy kids.

I love my nephew and the nieces are starting to seem more like people rather than babies, but, I want my own life. I don't want to give myself away to my family. Being the nice one can really be a bad thing. If you are the nice one in your family you know exactly what I mean. No one likes it when the nice one says no, you have to find a nice way to say no. You also never get angry, that would be less than nice.

I'm not angry and I'm not even annoyed. I am just glad to be back to myself again. It's good to help and I don't mind being there but I was getting cabin fever for my own life, at least two days ago. Another two days and I think someone else would have moved in under my own skin and I'd be left, homeless, without a body, let alone a life.

I had great driving music on the way home too. I stopped for a Tim Horton's coffee before I hit the dark roads. I knew I'd be getting sleepy before I got halfway back here. Getting sleepy while driving is not a good thing. It takes me about an hour to drive here, though everyone else seems to do it in half that time. My car is old and makes protesting noises when I speed. Still, I've never had so much as a parking ticket and I like it that way. But, it does make me angry to have someone shining their bright lights at the back of my head for 20 minutes. Why don't they just pass me and leave me alone? I'm not going to speed up just cause some chipmunk with a driver's license wants me to.

Anyway, I'm back! I'm back! I'm back!

If my family stumble into this (not very likely) I did not mind being there. I just had enough of it. Plus, I really wanted clean clothes!! Also, I was afraid the car would tell me to piss off when I tried to start it again after neglecting it for a few days. Anyway, whisper I'm back.

Female Merit Badges

Embroidery and Beadwork by Mary Yaeger

My female merit badges illustrate female "rites of passage" as well as the myriad physical manipulations women undergo to achieve cultural ideals of beauty, such as weight watching, whether or not to shave or wear makeup, etc. I've created tiny replicas of female products, such as a birth control pill pack and a pregnancy test. The miniature scale and meticulous, hand-embroidered surfaces convey my impressions of growing up female in our culture.

Rosie's Survey

Welcome to the Summer 2005 edition of getting to know your friends.

What you are supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire e-mail and paste it onto a new e-mail that you'll send. Change all the answers so they apply to you, and then send this to a whole bunch of friends including the person who sent it to you. The theory is that you will learn a lot of little things about your friends, if you did not know them already.

  1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A SECOND HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE? I don't have a first home. I'd pick a house in the mountains of BC but for more practical reasons I would be near family, around this area. I wouldn't really want a second home, too much cleaning, fixing and expense.

  2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING? Sexy lingerie. It's something you wear secretly, just for yourself.

  3. THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT? I bought Dungeon Keeper Gold for a buck from the GoodWill store, a few weeks ago.

  4. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING? When Zack is visiting I'm at at 7:00 or earlier. Otherwise it depends on how late I was up working the night before.

  5. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE? The fridge I guess, can you imagine being without one? Hauling blocks of ice around, etc.

  6. IF YOU COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I played drums in high school. I'd rather listen than play really.

  7. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV? Neither one. Both tend to be owned by people who need their driving skills reassessed.

  8. DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE? I believe in reincarnation, recycling just makes sense.

  9. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK? Anne of Green Gables, the series I guess. Pippi Longstocking too.

  10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON? They're all good in different ways.

  11. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Shapeshifting, I'd have endless options and be able to explore the bottom of the ocean, the tops of the tallest trees and the fullest bank vaults.

  12. IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT IS IT? None.

  13. CAN YOU JUGGLE? No, but I love watching juggling.

  14. Which person from your past would you like to talk to again? My Grandfather and Grandmother Scherle and her sisters.

  15. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK? Whatever one it is now.

  16. WHAT'S IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR? Stuff to be done which will likely become junk to throw out before it ever gets done. Also a sleeping back and other road trip essentials.

  17. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER? Hamburger

  18. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER? Mainly wildflowers like sweet william (carnations), violets (violas), golder marjoram (smells divine), lemon verbena (also smells great), cacti (one kind specifically but I can never find the right name for it) and tulips.

  19. FAVORITE ICE CREAM? Something with a lot of chocolate, vanilla and ribbons of caramel.

  20. PLAIN, BUTTERED, OR SALTED POPCORN? Plain but I seldom make popcorn up.

  21. FAVORITE COLOR? Deep, dark red.

  22. FAVORITE SANDWICH? Club house.

  23. ON VACATION, WHERE WOULD YOU GO? Russia.

  24. FAVORITE BRAND OF CLOTHING? I don't look at name brands, just the clothes, colours, style, etc.

  25. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? Toronto, Don Mills area.

  26. FAVORITE SPORT TO WATCH ON TV? I don't watch sports on TV but I go out to see my nephew play soccer.

  27. COKE OR PEPSI? diet Coke

  28. FAVORITE SNACK? Ice cream

Comment from itsdarkatnight

Some of these I loved, some I didn't, but thanks for putting them in here. They are all at least interesting.

I have the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson in one of my written journals. I read it in a book when I was a little girl. :)
