Kind of an Off Day

There are so many things I want to do: ezine publishing, book writing, column writing, blogging, web design, blog templates, web comics, ASCII art, pixel art, writing in general, and I'm forgetting a few dozen other things.

It's great to have interests, it's good to have ambition but somehow you need focus and discipline along with creativity and inventiveness.

So, I'm working on the focus and discipline. Today wasn't a great day for them. I did get some of the things done, the errands but the most important errand was left too late, the bank was closed earlier than I hoped. I told myself I would get the front page of my site done and uploaded and I have not started that. So bad, bad me.

I told the guy who isn't paying the rent that he has to leave. That was a big deal, couldn't totally get it out of my mind all day. He re-promised (much like regurgitated worms, leaves a bad taste and stinks too) that he would pay. He will catch up for December this week, he's apparently decided he can skip November and October. I wonder where January fits in for him. Anyway, he also said "it's not up to you!!!" With "you" being underlined heavily and all those exclamation points. Now, that just pissed me off. Buddy burned his last bridge when I read that.

I may drive out to see my brother tomorrow, he left a message that he needs some typing and computer set up help. While I'm there I will get official authorization for buddy who wants to continuing ripping us off. Then, I plan to tell buddy he can pack up and get out on the spot. No time to find somewhere else to go, time is up.

Anyway, I did go to the big Chapters bookstore today when I had my driving around day. So nice to go there and see what's new in books. I looked at books about drawing (cartoons, manga and drawing in general), writing (though I didn't see anything new there) and of course every single computer related book. I bought the latest issue of Broken Pencil. It's their 10th anniversary this issue.

Now, it's almost 8:00 and I can spend an hour on CSS and then I will go down to watch Medium on TV. I like Ghost Whisperer on Friday too but Medium is better. Maybe it's cause she's not a girl (she's married with kids) and maybe it's cause her life just looks more real rather than sugar coated for TV. I didn't watch it before cause I don't usually watch horror, especially anything to do with ghosts. But, my Mom got me hooked while she was up here, in the off season for snowbirds.

2006: My New Year's Resolutions (Limited Edition)

I haven't made a New Year's Resolution since I caved under co-worker pressure when I was 16 and working full time supporting an apartment of my own. I had quit high school and moved out, shared an apartment with an older woman (older than me which wasn't saying much at the time). The women where I worked (the even older ones, those who I think were kind of nasty to me when I see it from the perspective of an older woman) pressured me into making New Year's Resolutions.

It had never been a big deal with my family. We had our First Footing thing where the person with dark hair was the first caller of the New Year and had a drink with everyone, being welcomed into the home. Since I was the only dark haired kid in the family I got to be the First Footer most years.

Anyway, I don't remember what resolutions I made that year. I just know I broke them all within the month and I felt really bad. I almost never break my promises, to anyone. I no longer let myself give them away so easily either. Age brings wisdom as well as grey hairs, whiskers and well, that's enough information.

So for 2006 I will make the following resolutions, for no good reason, with no real promise to fulfill any one of them.

1). I will buy a better pair of tweezers for those really aggravating chin whiskers. I can feel one, freshly grown. Why is it you can really only see them while looking in the car mirror. I don't know how many times I've pretended not to notice someone catching me plucking my chinny chin chin. Twice I pretended to pick my nose just to add to the show.

2). I will make more ASCII art, pixel art and make use of the digital camera. Things I wanted to do anyway, so there. I did take the digital camera out for a spin today. I took pictures of the row of snow covered pine trees in the backyard. But I think the battery has a problem cause the camera kept trying to shut itself down before I could click to take the picture.

3). I will date a pirate of some kind. Any guy wearing an eyepatch will do. I've always had a thing for eye patches, they look so dangerous and mysterious. I don't go in for the whole 'bad boy' thing, just the illusion and the eye patch of course.

4). I will create a web comic. I made a sketch today, I just have to learn to draw now and I'll be all set.

5). I will finish learning CSS. I'm reading Web Design Garage and have gone past the point of no return. (That's so much more interesting than saying I'm more than halfway through the book).

6). I will conquer the blasted sewing machine. I will also re-remember how to crochet granny squares.

7). I will take a completely pointless and unplanned road trip. Probably to the Kincardine area again. I found the perfect beach in the middle of nowhere. All pebbly and those sparse looking beach trees and water, lots of clear water you can walk into without stepping on too many shells. I will have a cottage cheese picnic there again and build my sandcastle, again.

8). I will accomplish more of the things I want to do.

9). There is nothing else, just checking to see who fell asleep.

Note: You'll be delighted (no doubt) to know I pulled out that whisker with my fingers just now. Doesn't it seem odd that men lose hair while women gain it? I'm sure it's part of some devious plot.

And Now for Someone Completely Crazy...

For someone to be willing to die in order to kill other people (other women's sons, brothers, husbands and fathers) is crazy. Whoever wrote this is no better than the suicide bombers who bomb hotels, airports, and Trade Centres.

Don't they understand those are people too? There are angry women over there too. Just cause they think differently, dress differently and worship differently doesn't mean they are wrong. They don't need to be bombed, obliterated or attacked. It really peeves me when people are so ignorant and intolerant.

for all the angry women out there... Source Unknown

Take all American women who are within five years of menopause - train us for a few weeks, outfit us with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks, moisturizer with SPF15, Prozac, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna - drop us (parachuted, preferably) across the landscape of Afghanistan, and let us do what comes naturally.

Think about it. Our anger quotient alone, even when doing standard stuff like grocery shopping and paying bills, is formidable enough to make even armed men in turbans tremble.

We've had our children, we would gladly suffer or die to protect them and their future. We'd like to get away from our husbands, if they haven't left already.

And for those of us who are single, the prospect of finding a good man with whom to share life is about as likely as being struck by lightning. We have nothing to lose.

We've survived the water diet, the protein diet, the carbohydrate diet, and the grapefruit diet in gyms and saunas across America and never lost a pound. We can easily survive months in the hostile terrain of Afghanistan with no food at all!

We've spent years tracking down our husbands or lovers in bars, hardware stores, or sporting events...finding bin Laden in some cave will be no problem.

Uniting all the warring tribes of Afghanistan in a new government? Oh, please ... we've planned the seating arrangements for in-laws and extended families at Thanksgiving dinners for years ... we understand tribal warfare.

Between us, we've divorced enough husbands to know every trick there is for how they hide, launder, or cover up bank accounts and money sources. We know how to find that money and we know how to seize it ... with or without the government's help!

Let us go and fight. The Taliban hates women. Imagine their terror as we crawl like ants with hot-flashes over their godforsaken terrain.

Today's Little Fantasy

I'll tell you a secret. The only other person on the planet who knows about any of this is of course, Keanu Reeves, cause he was there.

Today while I was waiting for the coffee water to boil, Keanu dropped by. He finally read that series of erotic stories I wrote about him and he just wanted to verify a few things. He was amazed that I knew him so well, his likes and his need to be tied up and kidnapped by a strange (fellow Canadian) woman. (Just in case you wanted to know, Keanu and I were born in the same year, though he's older, don't rub it in and make him feel bad).

So, Keanu invited me to attend the next Oscar bash with him down there in the US. I said I don't have anything to wear, though I have an idea for a really great dress. I'd have to starve a few months to be Hollywood thin and there's a good chance I'd die before getting skeletal enough, but... it's a date with Keanu.

I created my dress, while waiting for that watched pot to boil. It was long, slinky and red, with a print of dragon scales. It would be backless so I could show off the huge dragon tattoo across my back and along my arms. Not one of those gaudy things, just something creative and discreet, yet somewhat shocking. Keanu loved my sketch.

But, he had to leave before the coffee was ready. Too bad, it was a Christmas blend, very good.

Canadian Driver zine

Canadian Driver

I was thinking about road rage today. Some people really are getting out of hand about it. Last night on the news they had a short blab about it. There are two cases from this past year, just in my area (about an hour out of even the extreme edge of anything that can be called Toronto). Both cases have people who are still being treated for injuries in road rage cases, one happened in April and the other July. That's months ago and police are still handling them, people are still healing from them. That's crazy.

People who tend to get that angry should not be driving. They should also learn that not everything is about themselves.

"That car cut ME off." Did they really cut you off? Or did they just goof up and try to get moved over into another lane. Was it really personal? Did they get to know you first and then cut you off. Don't make it all about you. You just happened to be there.

The only time I get annoyed while driving is when people drive too close behind me. I drive an older car (older than any children alive as children become teenagers at the age of 13, cars just become relics). That car isn't always happy about being on the road. Sometimes it doesn't feel all too eager to speed up after the red light, sometimes it is quite happy to drive AT the speed limits. Usually we are both pretty happy about that part, I don't want a ticket. Anyway, I often get people driving behind me who try to push me to go faster. Go around me people. Don't try to make me do something I don't want to do, don't be a road jerk. You have options other than shining your headlights in my face or trying to read the tag on the back of my shirt. Go around and get lost.

There, all my road rage has been released now. I feel so much better. Luckily I didn't have to go anywhere today. I didn't even go out to uncover the car from the snow that avalanched down upon us last night. Poor car, I'm so glad I don't live outside all year.
