Cryptoscopophilia: The secret desire to look through people’s windows as one passes by.
My ex-husband always wished he could get into other people’s houses and snoop around. I never understood how that was appealing. But, I photographed derelict, abandoned houses for years and almost never went inside. It just didn’t feel right. Not going inside didn't keep me from enjoying the old houses, or getting a lot of photographs.
Most photographs I've seen posted from inside the abandoned houses just look mess and sad. Even more derelict than the house itself.
I try not to focus on things I don’t like. But, its not easy to just carry on and get past everything. Some things should matter, even if they are kind of small.
One thing that bothers me, not quite enough to be a pet peeve, is having a short (one sentence or even less) reply to a note I’ve spent time to think about, write, and then post. A note being at least a medium length paragraph.
Maybe its something inherited from the cell phone people. Short, impersonal/ care free replies.
Anyway, I’m going to stop thinking about it and just make fresh coffee, throw in another load of laundry, and continue on with my day.
Writing is an art with good spelling.
Did anyone else ever say it? It doesn't seem likely that its just me. But, so far, it is.
I first used this as my subheader/ tag line for the Canadian Spelling blog. I still have the domain but the site isn't up.
What would you need if you planned to live in a cave for a year? Think about things like a lack of sunlight, heat and the dampness. Also, basic essentials like clean water, sustainable food, something to sleep on, something to wear, and something to do day to day to keep busy. Forget your phone or laptop, the cave doesn’t get Internet for more than an hour a day when the signal hits it just right.
I'm surprised (and not surprised) by how many people use AI for making/ writing anything. Kind of amazing how quickly its becoming common use. Like bottled water and cell phones. Almost overnight "everyone" uses them.
AI is great for mass producing/ marketing but pretty useless for any real information. AI just repeats what it finds and has no sense of what is safe, real, harmful, factual, true etc. Of course nothing original or unique comes from an AI - it can't.
Plus, it doesn't have to care. In writing its a sure sign of someone out to make a buck and not caring what slop they publish. I'd consider AI for making a website, the mechanics of putting a site together, but not for images I add. Those would just be copied from someone else without them knowing. I haven't tried it for a site yet.
I won't use AI for one single word I write. I write for myself, and anyone else who wanders by, but mainly I want to write - me, my voice, my thoughts, my responsibility.
If an AI writes for you - you have no voice and you likely think using an AI is an excuse should something you write be questioned. "I didn't write it, the AI did, I'm blameless". I wonder how long that will work for people using an AI.
