You have a headache. It's been hanging around all day. The usual remedies and tricks have not worked. So, you take a long look at your head in the mirror and notice an odd bump on your forehead. It wasn't there before. As you watch the bump moves, just a tiny bit. That's kind of scary.
At the hospital they x-ray your head to see what the heck has gotten into you. Turns out it wasn't the average joe of headaches after all. What's in your head, messing with your mind?
Yes, this is kind of a gruesome writing prompt but I really do have a headache and it seems only right to share. A headache shared is half, don't they say something like that?
Win some M&M's from A Quad Mom Named Suz Tell her about your day of indulgence. What would you do if you could do anything and everything in the world, your one day of self indulgence?
This is my day of indulgence:
My day would start with a handsome and charming chauffeur coming to my door very early in the morning. I'd direct him to several places where there are abandoned farmhouses in the area. I'd take all the photos I could, until I was too cold to do any more and the light was fading. In between there would be stops for coffee and a nice lunch somewhere in some little town. I'd have a book to read over lunch, or chat up the chauffeur if he could carry a conversation. At the end of the day, when it was too dark for photos I'd go to the big bookstore for a latte and a book shopping. Then the chauffeur drives me to a nice motel so I can have a hot shower with delicious smelling body soap and shampoo. I spend the night reading snuggled up in bed. The beach is there in the morning, so even though my day is over I can zip out for an early morning of beach combing and sandcastle building before I have to get back to the real world and regular scheduled life.
I would have added more to that if I had thought about it first. Like shopping at the Body Shop for the most luxurious scented shampoo and soap for my shower at the motel. I really like showering at night, when the house is quiet and no one else is awake. It's so quiet and I feel at peace for at least awhile.

What makes you melt?

My nephew’s real laugh. He’s 13 now, the start of so many changes and so much growing up. Though I haven’t had children of my own he is like my own son. I’ve helped raise him through my sister’s divorce and my own. He is a lovely boy turning into a young man and his laughs don’t come so easily as they did when he was a little boy. They are a treasure now and I melt when I think of all that has been and all that is yet ahead of him. I’m so glad to be someone he counts on and so glad to still be someone who can make him laugh and feel better when things are not always so easy in his life.
Your regular coffee is not available. So the barista offers you something new, thinking you will like it. The new coffee does smell divine, even better than your usual. It's smooth and mellow and why did you ever drink any other coffee...?
Leaving the coffee shop you notice odd things. You can see everything but all the colours are brighter and sharper. Like fixing the picture on a screen, your eyes are seeing clearly now. Some things are too bright and you fight off a little glare. You have an interesting day, seeing things with new eyes.
In the evening you discover you can see in the dark. Like a cat or an owl, you now have night vision. What do you do with your new skill? What things would you like to see at night?
You see a Witch scrunched down at the side of the sidewalk. You only think of her as a Witch because of the way she is dressed, an exceptionally great costume - if this were Halloween. She is doing something odd with her fingers. For lack of a better word you would say she is hexing something. Interesting...
As you walk past she says your name. Your ears perk up and your skin prickles. When you stop and look back she is looking right up at you. It's creepy.
However, you're the curious sort so you stop and wait to see what she does or says next. She offers you one wish but it has to be wicked. No world peace or ending world hunger or any of that hogwash. What wicked wish would you make? Something the nice girl in you would find terrible and not even consider thinking let alone doing!
Think of something not usually haunted and come up with a reason why it is haunted. For instance...
*The Tale of the Haunted Can Opener
It all began with Miss Henrietta Millstone and the can of sardines. Poor Henrietta didn't know you just needed to turn down the key on the lid. She worked really hard trying to open that can with the mighty Pink Power Can Blaster 3001 but it did her no good. In the end, Henrietta was fatally wounded when the sardines (contaminated with radiation from the pollution in the lake) got into a little cut on her finger from the rough edge of the can she was butchering open. Henrietta died, still holding the can opener, still stubbornly trying to open that can the wrong way.
Now, on pizza night at the sardine cannery, they say you can still hear Henrietta cursing and shrieking about her stubborn can opener. Her ghost is said to roam the halls, still holding her can opener in one hand and the sardine can in the other. You smell her long before you see her.*
Your turn now. Don't forget to come up with a good name for your ghost.
