Two words that I still get confused are affect and effect. Even when I think I have them straightened out in my head I get them muddled up next time the choice comes up to use one or the other. Oatmeal has a plan to tell which is which. Think of affect as a verb and effect as a noun. Any time you can substitute another verb in the sentence, then you know it’s affect, not effect.
